What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Arborist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Arborist, you need a solid understanding of tree biology, pruning techniques, and pest/disease identification, typically supported by a degree or certification in arboriculture or a related field. Competence with chainsaws, climbing equipment, and tree risk assessment tools, as well as certifications like ISA Certified Arborist, are commonly required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help Arborists interact with clients and ensure safe job execution. These skills ensure the health and safety of trees, people, and property while promoting sustainable landscape management.

What are some common challenges faced by arborists when maintaining trees and shrubs in urban environments?

Arborists often encounter challenges such as limited growing space, soil compaction, and exposure to pollution when caring for trees and shrubs in urban settings. They must also navigate around utilities and buildings, making pruning and removal more complex. Collaborating with city planners, property owners, and landscapers is essential to develop solutions that promote plant health while ensuring public safety. These conditions require arborists to be adaptable and knowledgeable about both plant care and urban infrastructure.

What are tree shrubs?

Tree shrubs are woody plants that have multiple stems and are generally shorter than trees, typically growing up to 20 feet tall. They are commonly used in landscaping for their ability to provide structure, privacy, and year-round interest in gardens and yards. Shrubs can be evergreen or deciduous and come in a wide variety of species, each with unique leaf shapes, flowers, and growth habits. Proper care, including pruning, watering, and fertilizing, can help maintain their health and enhance their ornamental value.

Responsibilities

We are seeking ambitious and energetic Pest Service Technicians that enjoy working independently outdoors to service and protect homes and their surrounding environments from unwanted pest activity. The Pest Control industry is not exactly what it may seem. Pest Control is more of a maintenance program to ensure that our customers don’t suffer from reoccurring pest activity. • Physically inspecting a variety of residential structures to determine the presence of pests; calculating the severity of infestations and the degree of structural damage.
  • Creating diagrams and graphs indicating the type, degree and location of infestations.
  • Discussing with residential customers to discuss work to be accomplished and  provide creative sales solicitations
  • Coordinating activities with the department secretaries and other branch personnel and submitting all paperwork and collections on a daily basis
  • Performing other administrative tasks at the supervisor's direction, including ordering equipment and supplies, compiling and submitting a variety of reports, and calling customers regarding client callbacks and stopped service.
  • Determining the costs, estimating the crew time and scheduling work.
  • Receiving and properly accounting for company funds collected during the course of business activities.
  • Maintaining company issued equipment and vehicle in a clean and safe condition at all times.

Start Date Information:
To support consistent training and onboarding, service technicians begin employment as part of a monthly cohort. The next scheduled start dates for this role are June 8, 2026 and July 13, 2026.

What’s In It for You?

  • Life and AD&D Insurance, Voluntary Term Life and AD&D Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Plan
  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match
  • Pet Insurance
  • Company issued vehicle and gas card. Take your company car home with you!
