As of Jul 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for tree company in the United States is $29.17, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $22.36 and $33.17 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a tree company role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a tree company role, you need knowledge of arboriculture, tree species identification, and safe tree removal or pruning techniques, often supported by relevant certifications like ISA Certified Arborist. Familiarity with chainsaws, climbing gear, wood chippers, and safety systems such as PPE is typically required. Strong teamwork, communication, and attention to safety detail are crucial soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure safe, efficient tree care operations and protect both workers and client property.

What are some common challenges faced when working for a tree company, and how can they be managed?

Working for a tree company often involves physically demanding tasks and exposure to outdoor elements, including adverse weather conditions. Safety is a top priority, as team members regularly use heavy machinery and work at heights. Managing these challenges typically involves thorough safety training, use of personal protective equipment, and strong communication within the crew. Staying updated on best practices and adhering to safety protocols can help minimize risks, while teamwork ensures that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

What does a tree company do?

A tree company specializes in a variety of services related to the care, maintenance, and removal of trees. Their work includes tree trimming, pruning, removal, stump grinding, planting, and sometimes emergency tree services after storms. They may also assess tree health, treat diseases, and provide advice on proper tree care. Tree companies employ trained arborists and use specialized equipment to ensure safety and the health of the trees and property. Their services are important for both residential and commercial properties to maintain landscape aesthetics and safety.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

For a tree company, jobs such as arborists, tree climbers, and equipment operators are less likely to be replaced by AI due to the physical, hands-on nature of the work. These roles require specialized skills, physical dexterity, and on-site decision-making that AI cannot easily replicate. Certification and safety training are essential for these positions to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

In the context of a tree company, high-paying roles such as executive positions (e.g., CEO or COO) or specialized consultants can reach or exceed $500,000 annually, often requiring extensive experience, leadership skills, and industry expertise. Most tree care or arborist roles typically do not reach this salary level, but top executives or business owners in the industry may do so.

How much do tree fellers get paid?

Tree fellers typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the job. Entry-level workers may start at lower wages, while experienced climbers with certifications can earn higher wages and additional benefits.

What is the difference between Tree Company vs Arborist?

AspectTree CompanyArborist
CertificationsMay or may not have certificationsTypically certified by ISA or similar organizations
Work EnvironmentPerforms various tree-related services, often on a contract basisSpecializes in tree care, pruning, and health assessments
Employer & Industry UsageHired by clients or companies for tree servicesEmployed by tree service companies or as independent consultants

While a Tree Company provides a range of tree-related services, an Arborist is a trained professional specializing in tree health and maintenance. Many arborists work within Tree Companies, but not all Tree Companies employ certified arborists. Understanding these differences helps clients choose the right service provider for their tree care needs.

Do tree companies make money?

Tree companies can be profitable, especially when they secure consistent clients and offer specialized services like pruning, removal, and stump grinding. Earnings depend on factors such as location, experience, equipment costs, and the scale of operations, with experienced crews often earning competitive wages. Successful companies typically manage costs effectively and build a strong customer base to ensure profitability.
