What is a treasury assistant?

As a treasury assistant, you handle many of the basic financial transactions of a business or organization and report to the treasury manager. You write checks, create and open accounts, and track account balances. A treasury assistant maintains steady communication with buyers, sellers, and other business partners to ensure all accounts are handled in a timely manner. You must keep meticulous records of transactions and backup vital information in case of natural disaster or system failure. To excel as a treasury assistant, you must display an attention to detail and an aptitude for mathematics. Most employers require you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business, although further voluntary certification, or becoming a certified public accountant (CPA) will set you ahead of other candidates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a treasury assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Treasury Assistant, you need strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and a background in finance or accounting, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Familiarity with financial management software, Excel, and banking platforms is typically required, and certifications such as CTP (Certified Treasury Professional) can be advantageous. Strong organizational skills, integrity, and the ability to communicate clearly help you manage sensitive financial data and liaise with internal and external stakeholders. These skills ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in managing company liquidity and financial transactions.

What are some typical challenges treasury assistants face when managing daily cash operations?

Treasury Assistants often encounter challenges such as reconciling bank statements under tight deadlines, managing multiple accounts across different currencies, and ensuring accurate cash forecasting. They must also coordinate closely with internal departments to gather timely payment information and resolve discrepancies quickly. Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills are essential to navigate these challenges and support the treasury team's smooth operations.

Job description

About the Role

The Senior Treasury Associate supports the day-to-day operations of the treasury function, assisting with cash management, forecasting, and reporting across a fast-growing, multi-partner platform. You will work closely with the Treasury Manager and broader finance team to ensure accurate, timely execution of treasury processes and contribute to the financial decisions that keep the business running.

Who You Are

You are a clear communicator who puts employees and partners first, a creative problem-solver who doesn't let things linger, and someone who moves fast without cutting corners. Above all, you hold yourself to a higher standard. In your work, your judgment, and how you treat people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cash Management: Support cash concentration, wire & ACH preparation, account funding, and daily bank entries including receipts and disbursements.
  • Banking & Credit Card Administration: Support daily requests, monitoring a shared inbox facilitating bank & credit card requests from all partner companies.
  • Payment Reconciliations: Assist with daily balancing, bank reconciliations, and reconciliation of AP transactions to the bank and general ledger.
  • Cash Flow Forecasting: Forecast, monitor, and track cash flow on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Reporting: Generate weekly KPI reports, validate cash & budgeting outputs, and support the merge of financial data into monthly consolidated financials.
  • AP Enablement: Support the Accounts Payable team through vendor outreach, statement reconciliation, payment batching through Bill.com. Champion the shared AP inbox to facilitate prompt & accurate responses to all inquires.
  • Policies & Controls: Participate in the development of treasury accounting policies, procedures, and internal control requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Period-End Close: Provide operational support to the Accounting and FP&A teams as needed, throughout monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, finance, cash management, or treasury
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in financial systems
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong communicator and able to translate financial information clearly for non-finance audiences
  • Highly organized, analytical, and proactive with a strong ownership mentality.
  • Process oriented with simple accurate results top of mind.
  • Full cycle accounting experience with strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, or ServiceTitan preferred

What Onboarding Looks Like

In your first 30 days, you will learn our systems, banking structure, and daily cash management processes while building relationships with your finance team counterparts. By day 60, you will be executing daily treasury operations independently and contributing to weekly reporting with minimal oversight. By day 90, you are a reliable, fully productive member of the treasury team, owning your responsibilities with accuracy and flagging issues before they escalate.

The 5 Big Things — What Success Looks Like

  • Daily operations run without errors: Success means cash entries, wire processing, and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time every day. No backlogs, no surprises.
  • Reporting is clean and on schedule: Success is weekly KPI reports and period-end financial outputs that are complete, accurate, and delivered when the team needs them.
  • Cash flow visibility is reliable: Success means forecasts are updated consistently and reflect reality. The treasury team always has a clear picture of where cash stands.
  • You support the team, not just your task list: Success means AP, AR, and FP&A teams can count on you when they need treasury support. You understand how your work connects to theirs and act accordingly.
  • You grow fast: Success is a Treasury Associate who is visibly more capable at 90 days than at 30. Taking on more complexity, asking better questions, and building toward the next level.
