Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent

Location: Traveling, primarily Southeast U.S.
Work Setting: Active commercial construction job sites
Employment Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $80,000 to $100,000 base salary

Quick Summary:
We are seeking a Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent with direct commercial construction field supervision experience. This role is focused on managing day-to-day field operations for retail construction projects, including retail remodels, rollouts, buildouts, tenant improvements, service-center projects, small-format commercial projects, and similar scopes.

Direct commercial GC retail construction experience is strongly preferred. Strong fit includes candidates who have directly managed subcontractors, jobsite schedules, safety, quality, inspections, punch list, and closeout on active retail or commercial construction projects.

Position Overview:
A growing commercial general contractor is seeking a highly organized Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent to oversee daily operations on commercial retail construction sites. This person will coordinate field activities, subcontractors, site logistics, project schedules, safety, quality control, and communication with the project team.

The ideal candidate has hands-on retail construction experience and is comfortable traveling to job sites as needed. Project experience may include retail renovations, remodels, rollouts, buildouts, tenant improvements, small-format retail construction, service-center buildouts, light commercial projects, or similar scopes.

Candidates whose experience is primarily subcontractor-only, facilities-only, merchandising-only, maintenance-only, or owner-side may not align unless they also have direct commercial GC field supervision experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day onsite construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards.

Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and site activities.

Maintain project schedules and communicate updates, delays, and field issues to the project manager.

Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements.

Enforce project plans, quality standards, safety requirements, and jobsite procedures.

Conduct daily site coordination and communicate progress with project stakeholders.

Track daily logs, deliveries, inspections, field reports, time sheets, and other jobsite documentation.

Coordinate materials, equipment, manpower, and subcontractor sequencing to keep work moving.

Identify and resolve field issues, delays, trade conflicts, or potential risks.

Assist with inspections, punch list items, project closeout, and turnover.

Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of field supervision experience in commercial construction.

Strong retail construction experience is highly preferred.

Experience with retail rollouts, renovations, buildouts, tenant improvements, service center projects, or similar commercial retail projects is strongly preferred.

Experience working directly for a commercial general contractor is strongly preferred.

Ability to clearly discuss project types, project values, delivery method, role ownership, and direct field responsibilities.

Ability to manage subcontractors, schedules, site safety, quality control, inspections, punch list, closeout, and daily field operations.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.

Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Comfortable traveling for projects as needed.

Proficiency with construction management or scheduling tools such as Procore, MS Project, or similar software is a plus.

OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred, but equivalent field experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work on active construction sites.

Ability to work in varying weather conditions and active jobsite environments.

Stable work history and strong professional references preferred.
