This role offers flexibility, the chance to gain diverse experience, and often comes with added benefits like travel stipends or housing arrangements. Traveling EMTs must be adaptable, possess strong clinical skills, and typically hold state or national certification. They play a vital role in ensuring emergency medical services are available wherever they are most needed.

What does a traveling EMT do?

A traveling EMT is an emergency specialist who travels to remote areas, such as sparsely populated U.S. counties that have a temporary need for EMTs. These health care professionals also work abroad, such as under U.S. government contracts, for a cruise ship line, or in the oil industry where there is a need for emergency medical care on oil rigs or other remote areas. As a traveling EMT, your primary responsibilities are similar to a traditional EMT. Your duties include responding to emergencies, assessing a patient’s vital signs such as blood pressure and respiratory functions, and providing medical support.
