Job Class Description: Instructional Assistant II - Class Code: 7318 (Grade 3189)

Position Type: FULL-TIME - FLSA Classification: NON-EXEMPT

Reports To: Director of Special Education/Designee Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) - Location: Districtwide

Compensation: Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS Salary Schedule for class code 7318 Hours Per Day: 7.0 hours Contracted Days: 181 days

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D., and Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or ability to obtain RBT certification within three months of gaining employment. Must be capable of working with students who may have physical, intellectual, emotional and/or behavior exceptionalities Safe Crisis Management (SCM) (will be provided by the District and must complete within three months of gaining employment)

Preferred: Associates degree or a minimum of 48 college hours Knowledge Of: Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and experience in developing and evaluating programs based upon the principles of ABA. Child guidance and prompting procedures. Understanding of and familiarity with the characteristics for a wide range of disabilities including (but not limited to) autism, intellectual disability, emotional disability, and ADHD. Basic computer skills, e-mail, and websites. Short and long-range planning techniques applicable to areas of specialty. Record-keeping techniques. Communication skills. Excellent attendance and professional appearance. Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Principles of training and providing work direction. Technical aspects of the field of specialty.

Job Description

Job Summary: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) assists in the development and implementation of behavior intervention programs for students with challenging behavioral needs at various sites throughout the district, monitors and collects data on behavior and documents progress, and collaborates with school staff to coach and implement behavior interventions.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the creation, implementation, and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA. Ability to read and identify essential components of a written Behavior Intervention Plan and Individualized Behavior Program as it relates to behavior areas in need. Provide modeling and training to teachers and paraprofessionals on how to implement Behavior Plans by identifying/describing behavior functions and appropriate reactive strategies for staff to use, modeling scenarios across environments, and assist staff in implementing reactive procedures for problem behavior. Effectively communicate with team members. Assist BCBA with observations and data collection assignments. Assist BCBA in analyzing and interpreting data. Travel to multiple sites within the district as necessary. Assist in the development of reinforcement identification procedures. Additional related tasks as assigned by the BCBA or DoSE.
