Employer & Industry UsageUsed by travel agencies, tour operators, and event organizersCommonly employed by travel agencies, corporate travel departments
Search & Comparison IntentPeople comparing team roles in travel companiesIndividuals seeking roles focused on planning and organizing travel

Travel Group roles involve managing or working within a team that organizes or executes travel arrangements, often in a collaborative environment. Travel Coordinators focus on planning, booking, and organizing individual or group travel details, ensuring smooth travel experiences. While both roles require knowledge of the travel industry, their responsibilities and work settings differ, with Travel Coordinators more client-facing and detail-oriented.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Travel Group Coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Travel Group Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in hospitality, tourism, or event management. Familiarity with booking and reservation platforms, itinerary planning software, and possibly certifications such as Certified Travel Associate (CTA) are highly beneficial. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure seamless group travel experiences, client satisfaction, and efficient handling of logistics and unexpected challenges.

What are travel groups?

Travel groups are organized collections of individuals who travel together to a destination, often with a shared itinerary or purpose. These groups can be arranged by travel agencies, clubs, companies, or social organizations, and typically offer group rates, guided tours, and coordinated activities. Traveling in a group can enhance the experience by providing companionship, cost savings, and logistical support, making it easier for individuals to explore new destinations safely and efficiently.

What are some common challenges faced when coordinating travel arrangements for large groups, and how can they be managed effectively?

Coordinating travel for large groups often involves complex logistics such as managing multiple itineraries, accommodating diverse preferences, and ensuring timely communication. Challenges can include last-minute changes, group member cancellations, and aligning transportation and accommodations to fit everyone’s schedules and budgets. Effective management requires strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and the use of specialized group booking tools. Building strong relationships with vendors and having contingency plans in place can also help ensure smooth travel experiences.

Senior Business Analyst - Ignite Travel Group (Broadbeach)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join the Ignite Engineering team in Broadbeach!

Ignite Travel Group is an award-winning travel company (NTIA Most Outstanding Online Travel Agency 2022), and Australia's largest travel advertiser, delivering incredible holidays and trailblazing win-win-win models for our people, customers, and business partners.

About the role

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in capturing business requirements and ensuring the successful implementation of our new travel booking platform, alongside supporting the backlog for our existing back-office platform. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide clear requirements to the engineering team on their behalf. Our engineering team is embracing AI-assisted delivery, and you'll bring experience and confidence with adopting AI tools - this is not a developer role, but these tools are central to how you'll analyse, specify and validate requirements - and you'll help shape how we use them.

Key responsibilities:

  • Gather and document business requirements, translating them into user stories and acceptance criteria within an agile software delivery team.
  • Develop use cases and process flows to support the development of software solutions
  • Use AI tools to accelerate requirements analysis and produce clear, well-structured specifications
  • Manage and refine the product backlog across both our existing back-office platform and our new travel booking platform, ensuring priorities reflect business value
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand business needs and pain points
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that project objectives align with business goals
  • Facilitate communication between business and technical teams
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and ensure that solutions meet business requirements
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and training material
  • Providing leadership within the project teams to ensure delivery of customer requirements and expectations

Who you are:

  • Experience within travel or other internet-scale environments desirable and strong understanding of the travel or retail industry
  • Extensive proven experience in key business analysis discipline areas including: requirements elicitation and documentation (as user stories, use case and acceptance criteria), process analysis and documentation, and organisational strategy
  • Experience and confidence working with AI-assisted analysis and specification
  • Curiosity and adaptability - willingness to continuously learn new tooling and ways of working as our practices evolve
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in business process re-engineering and improvement
  • Well-developed written and oral communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to conduct virtual meetings and workshops
  • Excellent documentation skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Attention to detail and effective organisation and time management skills
  • Strong business acumen and critical thinking skills
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar business analyst role
  • Business Analyst formal qualification highly desirable
  • Familiarity with spec-driven developing practices highly regarded; (producing specifications precise and unambiguous enough to drive both engineering teams and AI coding agents)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central highly regarded
  • UI/UX experience highly regarded

Catapult your career across a network of brands and businesses in an evolving industry
