What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a specialized form of counseling designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. It uses evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and somatic therapies to address the emotional and psychological effects of trauma. The goal is to help individuals regain a sense of safety, manage distressing symptoms, and improve their overall quality of life. Trauma therapists are trained to provide a safe and supportive environment for clients to work through their experiences at their own pace.

Trauma therapists often encounter challenges such as managing clients' intense emotional responses, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and preventing vicarious trauma or burnout. To address these, therapists use evidence-based approaches like grounding techniques, regular supervision, and self-care practices.
