Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Group Exercise Instructor - Yoga Instructor is responsible for leading a variety of fitness classes aimed at promoting health and wellness for YMCA members of all ages and fitness levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Lead dynamic and engaging group exercise classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines and standards. Design and deliver safe and effective workouts that cater to the diverse needs and fitness levels of participants. Instruct participants on proper exercise techniques, form, and modifications as needed.
  2. Plan and prepare for each group exercise class, including selecting appropriate music, choreographing routines, and organizing equipment. Set up class space, sound systems, and equipment prior to each class to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for participants.
  3. Motivate and inspire participants to achieve their fitness goals through positive encouragement, instruction, and support. Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable and empowered to challenge themselves and push their limits.
  4. Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by monitoring their exercise intensity, form, and exertion levels during class. Follow YMCA safety protocols and guidelines to minimize the risk of injury and provide immediate assistance or modifications as needed.
  5. Provide excellent customer service to class participants by greeting them warmly, answering questions, and addressing concerns or feedback in a timely and professional manner. Foster a sense of community and camaraderie among class participants through personal interactions and group activities.
  6. Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and industry standards in group fitness instruction. Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to enhance your knowledge, skills, and certifications as a group exercise instructor.
  7. Secures qualified substitutes well in advance.
  8. Maintain all personal certifications; attend workshops and recertification training as needed or required.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age of 18.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with class participants.
  3. Certification in area of expertise.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead an individual/group and motivate others to achieve their health and well-being goals.
  5. Certifications required within 60 days of hire: CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen.
  6. Ability to complete the following within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention; Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training.
  7. Passion for the YMCA mission and commitment to serving the community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time.
