Trauma Informed Care Advisor information

What is a Trauma Informed Care Advisor?

A Trauma Informed Care Advisor is a professional who helps organizations and individuals understand and implement trauma-informed approaches. This means they provide guidance on recognizing the impact of trauma, creating safe environments, and promoting practices that support healing and resilience. Their expertise is crucial in settings like healthcare, education, social services, and law enforcement, where understanding trauma can improve outcomes for clients and staff. Trauma Informed Care Advisors may also offer training, policy development, and consultation to ensure trauma-informed principles are integrated into daily operations.

How does a Trauma Informed Care Advisor collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement trauma-informed practices?

A Trauma Informed Care Advisor works closely with professionals from various backgrounds—such as healthcare providers, social workers, educators, and administrators—to promote trauma-sensitive approaches across an organization. They often lead training sessions, facilitate team discussions, and provide ongoing support to ensure consistent implementation of trauma-informed principles. Effective collaboration involves fostering open communication, addressing challenges in adapting practices, and building a shared understanding of trauma’s impact on clients and staff. By working together, the team can create safer, more supportive environments that help both service users and employees thrive.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Trauma Informed Care Advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trauma Informed Care Advisor, you need in-depth knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health frameworks, and typically a background in psychology, social work, or a related field. Familiarity with assessment tools, case management systems, and relevant certifications such as trauma-informed care training are commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to lead and educate teams are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies are essential for fostering safe, supportive environments and effectively guiding organizations to respond to trauma with compassion and efficacy.

About Kolmac

Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health specializes in evidence-based mental health and substance use treatment. We operate on the belief that when clinicians feel supported, patients get better outcomes. That means realistic caseloads, collaborative teams, and leadership that listens.

We're expanding our mental health programs and looking for a skilled, compassionate therapist ready to do some of the most meaningful clinical work of their career.

What the Role Looks Like Day-to-Day

As a Mental Health Therapist at Kolmac, you will be at the center of patient care—building strong therapeutic relationships and delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment. You'll hold a blend of individual and group therapy, approximately 50–65% of your time in direct patient care with adults (and some adolescents). The rest is split across documentation, treatment team collaboration, and case management.

Your core clinical responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual and group psychotherapy using CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma-informed approaches
  • Lead process, psychoeducational, and skills-based groups focused on emotional regulation, coping, and mental wellness
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and level-of-care determinations
  • Develop and maintain person-centered, trauma-informed treatment plans
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, and peers in interdisciplinary team meetings and case consultations
  • Support patients in understanding their diagnoses and building insight for long-term recovery
  • Provide care coordination with families, referral sources, and external providers
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and on time
Who We're Looking For

Required:

  • Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of direct clinical experience in mental health treatment
  • Strong working knowledge of CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care
  • Comfort with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Experience with — or genuine interest in working with — both adults and adolescents
  • LGPC, LMSW, LCPC, LCSW, LCSW-C in Maryland
  • LCSW, LPCMH in Delaware

Strongly Preferred:

  • EMDR certification or active EMDR training
Compensation

Why Clinicians Stay at Kolmac

Caseloads that don't burn you out. We cap direct care at 50–65% for a reason. You'll have time to document, consult, and actually think.

Real interdisciplinary collaboration. You'll work alongside psychiatrists, nurses, and peer support specialists — not in a silo.

Leadership that has clinical roots. Our program directors carry clinical backgrounds. When you raise a concern, you're talking to someone who gets it.

Growth as we grow. We're actively expanding our mental health programming, which means pathways into leadership, supervision, and specialty tracks for the right clinicians.

Mission-driven, not metrics-driven. We measure success through clinical outcomes — patient retention, program completion, and transitions of care — not session counts.
