General Responsibility and Function:We are seeking a safety-conscious and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Night Dispatcher in our chemical manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials, ensuring timely and accurate dispatching of shipments in accordance with federal, state, and company regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a solid understanding of DOT and hazardous material handling protocols, and the ability to multitask in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:Coordinate the scheduling and dispatching of drivers for hazardous materials pickups and deliveries.Ensure all shipments are accurately documented and compliant with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.Review shipping orders, bills of lading, manifests, and permits for accuracy and proper labeling of hazardous materials.Communicate with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers to ensure smooth execution of transportation plans.Monitor vehicle routes, locations, and compliance through GPS tracking systems or dispatch software.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of routes, traffic patterns, road closures, and weather conditions to optimize delivery times and ensure safety.Serve as the point of contact for emergency response coordination in the event of an incident during transport.Ensure drivers are equipped with required safety gear, placards, and documentation for each load.Track and document driver hours, vehicle inspections, maintenance needs, and load status.Maintain dispatch logs, records, and reports in accordance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.Support internal teams with scheduling adjustments and transportation-related inquiries.Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and audits as required.Skills & Competencies:High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or logistics certification preferred.Minimum 2 years of experience in dispatching or transportation logistics, preferably in a hazardous materials or chemical manufacturing environment.Familiarity with DOT regulations, hazardous materials classifications, and emergency response protocols.Proficient in using dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.Attention to detail with a focus on safety, compliance, and accuracy.Must be dependable and fully committed to working the assigned schedule of four (4) consecutive 12-hour night shifts.Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of the regular operating schedule.Ability to maintain alertness, sound judgment, and attention to detail throughout extended 12-hour shifts is essential.Schedule & Availability - Important Requirement:This position operates on a 4-on/4-off schedule consisting of four (4) consecutive 12-hour night shifts. This is a full-time, fixed-shift position, and the ability and willingness to consistently work the complete four-shift rotation is an essential requirement of the job.The Night Dispatcher will be expected to:Work four (4) consecutive 12-hour night shifts per scheduled rotation.Work the entire 12-hour shift as scheduled and report reliably and on time for each shift.Work weekends when they fall within the assigned rotation.Work holidays when they fall within the assigned rotation or when required by business and operational needs.Maintain consistent attendance and reliability throughout the scheduled four-shift rotation.Be prepared to work in a 24/7 chemical manufacturing and transportation operation where coverage must be maintained continuously.This is not a Monday–Friday or standard 8-hour position. Candidates must understand and be fully committed to the demands of working four consecutive 12-hour night shifts.Work Environment:This position is based in a chemical manufacturing and logistics facility. While the day-to-day work is handled primarily out of an office area, there will be times when the dispatcher will be tasked with stepping into the general warehouse area to confirm load preparedness, product type, or to communicate with drivers and/or supplier representatives as needed.The work environment includes exposure to hazardous materials, chemical fumes, noise, and temperature fluctuations. The role requires frequent use of communication systems, computers, and documentation tools, as well as occasional interaction with chemical transport containers and PPE.Compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations is mandatory. The Hazardous Materials Dispatcher must be proactive in identifying risks, ensuring regulatory adherence, and maintaining safe operational standards for both on-site activities and transportation logistics.Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)-such as gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection-is required when interacting with materials or operations involving potential exposure. Safety training will be provided to maintain a strong safety culture.
