Transportation Coordinator
Full-Time (12-Month, Non-Aligned)

The District is seeking a highly qualified and structured professional to serve as Busing Coordinator and oversee all daily operations of the student transportation program. In this critical administrative role, the selected candidate will be responsible for comprehensive route planning, fleet management, staff supervision, and strict adherence to regulatory safety standards to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of students for daily instruction and extracurricular events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Routing: Direct daily transportation operations, optimize bus routes using scheduling software, and manage service for regular education, special education, and extracurricular activities.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure full adherence to federal and state transportation laws, maintain driver qualifications (CDL/testing requirements), and coordinate emergency bus evacuation drills.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee preventive vehicle maintenance, schedule state inspections, and monitor fleet performance and replacement needs.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate drivers and transportation staff in a positive, safety-focused culture.
  • Budget & Administration: Manage the transportation budget, oversee vendor contracts, conduct cost analyses, and submit required state reporting (DRTRS).
  • Community Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for parent inquiries, resolve concerns promptly, and advise district leadership on inclement weather road conditions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of school transportation or equivalent operational experience.
  • Certification: Completion of (or willingness to complete within 2 years) the NJ Transportation Certification Program.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with transportation routing software, MS Office, and student information systems.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of New Jersey statutes, federal regulations, and vehicle maintenance standards.
  • Requirements: Background check clearance, U.S. work authorization, and compliance with NJ residency requirements.
