Transit Scheduler


Overview

The Transit Scheduler supports the development and maintenance of METROBus and METRORail operating schedules to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑efficient transit service. This role collaborates with multiple internal departments to prepare schedules, analyze service performance, and support continuous operational improvements. It requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with transit scheduling software.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing operating schedules, including trips, blocks, run cutting, and rostering for bus and rail services.

• Prepare and update operator sign‑up information and related documents.

• Coordinate schedule/routing changes, supervisor guides, info posts, operator paddles, and other service materials; ensure accurate and timely distribution.

• Prepare data and updates for downstream operational technology systems.

• Create and maintain destination sign readings.

• Review public guides, operator maps, service change flyers, supervisor guides, and internal scheduling documents for accuracy.

• Prepare schedules for major annual service changes, interim adjustments, bus bridge operations, and special service projects.

• Assist with annual and periodic updates to the Integrated Vehicle Operations Management System (IVOMS).

• Support development and distribution of the Summary of Schedules and monthly/annual National Transit Database (NTD) reporting.

• Analyze ridership, performance, and running time data using IVOMS to support service optimization.

• Maintain accurate scheduling and operational data within SEMA/SAP systems.

• Work closely with Bus Operating Facilities (BOFs) to support operational alignment and resolve scheduling needs.

• Review and respond to customer inquiries, questions, and service‑related concerns.

• Ride and evaluate select bus routes to monitor route performance and recommend improvements.

• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external METRO stakeholders.

• Apply Safety Management System (SMS) principles and support the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).

• Promote safety awareness and follow all METRO safety procedures.

• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$60,800 – $79,700

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field required.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transit operations and/or service scheduling.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of public transportation infrastructure, service scheduling, and operator/vehicle work assignment development.

• Hands‑on experience with transit scheduling software, including Trapeze and HASTUS.

• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and transportation logistics preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel at a professional level for data analysis, reporting, and schedule management.

• Ability to analyze data, manage multiple deadlines, and collaborate effectively with operational teams.
