Job Summary:
A School Bus router is an hourly, non-exempt position and works under the supervision of a manager. In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of routing including developing and implementing safe and cost-effective routing solutions and, working with our school district partners for review and approval of routes, updates and changes. You will also be willing and prepared to drive a school bus route as needed as a substitute for delivering students to and from school and also for testing and evaluating proposed bus routes.
Specific Duties:
  • Manage the computerized routing, including but not limited to creating/updating/deleting routes ensuring that all students are assigned as needed to transportation.
  • Conduct continuous analysis of route, vehicle and driver assignments for possible consolidation and improvements.
  • Analyze transportation requests and current routes to utilize the existing fleet without compromising student instructional time or safety.
  • Assist with planning and implementing routing, vehicle scheduling, and resource allocation in accordance with established policies and objectives to optimize economical utilization of assets
  • Collaborate with the school district to implement and comply with school district transportation guidelines, procedures and/or policies.
  • Communicate routing information to parents, school district officials, drivers, monitors and office staff.
  • Ensure, maintain and practice a high level of confidentiality in all matters.
  • Maintain files with information regarding pickup/drop off times, addresses, phone numbers, and student special transportation requirements.
  • Ensure that all route turn by turn directions are accurate and up to date, with accurate stop descriptions.
  • Observe and track route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, using GPS technology and/or ride along evaluations.
  • Keep accurate records and submit reports as required. This includes all documentation for transportation requests, routing changes, complaints, etc.
  • Run and maintain all monthly reporting data as required for the annual State Report, including but not limited to student files, routes, and stop locations.
  • Assist Managers and School Districts in collection of monthly data for annual State Report.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local DOT guideline
  • Procure and maintain School Bus CDL License.
  • Assist Dispatcher and office staff as needed, including driving as needed
  • Occasional travel to company locations for route review
