How much do transportation router jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for transportation router in California is $22.64, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.99 and $24.18 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some typical challenges faced by Transportation Routers and how can they be addressed?

Transportation Routers often face challenges such as last-minute route changes, unexpected traffic delays, and balancing cost efficiency with delivery deadlines. Adapting quickly to real-time updates and maintaining clear communication with drivers and dispatchers are key to overcoming these hurdles. Leveraging advanced routing software and staying up to date with local conditions can help routers respond effectively to disruptions. Many companies provide ongoing training and support to help Transportation Routers enhance their problem-solving skills and improve overall route efficiency.

How much does a transportation router make?

The average salary for a transportation router ranges from $40,000 to $65,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of routing systems used. Many roles also offer benefits such as health insurance and opportunities for advancement, with some positions requiring knowledge of routing software and logistics coordination.

What is a Transportation Router job?

A Transportation Router is responsible for planning and optimizing delivery routes to ensure efficient transportation of goods or passengers. They analyze factors like traffic patterns, delivery windows, and vehicle capacity to create the most cost-effective and timely routes. This role often involves using routing software and collaborating with drivers, dispatchers, and logistics teams. Effective routing helps reduce fuel costs, improve delivery times, and enhance overall logistics efficiency.

What transportation job pays the most?

In transportation, roles such as logistics managers, freight directors, and transportation directors tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding $100,000 annually. These positions typically require extensive experience, strong management skills, and knowledge of supply chain operations.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Transportation routers typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily earnings are more common in specialized roles like executive consultants, high-level sales professionals, or certain medical specialists. Most transportation-related roles offer hourly wages or salaries below this level, though experienced logistics managers or freight brokers with extensive client bases can reach high daily earnings. Achieving $2000 a day generally requires advanced skills, certifications, or ownership of a business in high-demand industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Transportation Router position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Transportation Router, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of logistics or supply chain processes, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant associate degree. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, and basic mapping tools is commonly required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and time management are vital soft skills for coordinating with drivers, dispatchers, and clients. These skills enable accurate route planning, minimize delivery delays, and ensure cost-effective, smooth operations.

What does a transportation router do?

A transportation router plans and optimizes delivery routes for shipments, ensuring timely and cost-effective transportation. They use routing software and data analysis to determine the most efficient paths, often coordinating with drivers and logistics teams to meet delivery schedules.

Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Maneuver Dominance team at Anduril develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. We are focused on making large groups of autonomous systems work effectively together. We leverage existing Anduril drone platforms like Ghost or Altius, in addition to bringing 3rd party platforms into Anduril's Lattice ecosystem.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Payload Integration to join the Maneuver Dominance team. In this role, you will design, develop, and integrate software that connects autonomous platforms with mission payloads, including stores management systems (SMS), networked devices, and hardware interfaces. You will architect APIs and data transport layers that move information reliably between vehicles, payloads, and ground systems in demanding operational environments.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy solving complex problems at the intersection of software, networking, and hardware, and are passionate about delivering mission-critical systems, this opportunity is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Develop Networked Software: Engineer scalable, robust software that interacts with networking devices, managed networks, and common router or switch hardware.
  • Payload & SMS Integration: Design and implement software that interfaces with stores management systems (SMS) and other payload subsystems to coordinate the release and control of munitions and mission payloads.
  • API/ICD Design: Architect and implement software APIs and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) using HTTP, REST, and gRPC to connect distributed systems across vehicles, payloads, and ground stations.
  • Data Transport Engineering: Build and optimize low-level data transport over UDP and TCP, ensuring reliable, low-latency communication in constrained operational environments.
  • Hardware-Interfacing Software: Write code that interfaces directly with hardware, bridging embedded devices, sensors, and payload electronics with higher-level autonomy software.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with hardware, systems, vehicle, and payload teams to seamlessly integrate software into physical platforms.
  • Real-World Deployment: Travel up to 25% to test, debug, and deploy systems in operational environments.
  • Iterative Development: Contribute across the entire software lifecycle, including prototyping, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Troubleshoot and Debug: Analyze and resolve issues in deployed systems, ensuring reliability and operational success.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • C++ or Rust Proficiency: 5+ years of hands-on experience developing production-grade software in C++ and/or Rust. Strong programmers in adjacent systems languages will be considered if other qualifications are met.
  • Networking Software: Experience building software that interacts with networking devices, managed networks, and common router or switch hardware.
  • API/ICD Design: Experience designing and implementing software APIs and ICDs, including work with HTTP, REST, and gRPC.
  • Data Transport: Solid understanding of low-level data transport layers, including UDP and TCP.
  • Hardware Interfacing: Experience writing code that interfaces with hardware (embedded devices, sensors, or payload electronics).
  • Systems-Level Thinking: Ability to navigate and contribute to complex systems and established codebases.
  • Real-World Impact: Passion for building software that directly influences mission-critical outcomes.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 25% to test and deploy systems.
  • Security Clearance: Must be eligible for a US security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Stores Management Systems: Direct experience with stores management systems (SMS) or related munitions/payload release systems in aerospace or defense platforms.
  • Aerospace/Defense Background: Familiarity with aerospace integration standards, vehicle bus protocols (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, ARINC), or DO-178/DO-254 development practices.
  • Distributed Systems: Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed systems and message-passing frameworks for multi-node coordination.
  • Embedded & Real-Time Systems: Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, or bare-metal development on resource-constrained hardware.
  • Programming Skills: Additional experience with Python, Go, or scripting for tooling and test automation.
  • Performance Optimization: Familiarity with profiling and optimizing networked and hardware-interfacing software.
