Job description

Transportation/Distribution Router in a Food Industry environment primarily responsible for developing and implementing cost-effective routing solutions to a wide range of customers in Greater Los Angeles County area including, Riverside, Palm Desert, Inland Empire, San Diego, Ventura and Santa Barbara, etc.... while insuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. The Transportation Router will monitor time delivery window compliance, route within DOT Hours of Service and recommend route improvements by considering traffic patterns, parking challenges and will anticipate other factors impacting our ability to deliver within specified delivery windows.

JOB DUTIES

  • Conduct continuous analysis of route, vehicle and driver assignments and reviews scheduling for possible consolidation or improvements.
  • Assists with planning and implementing vehicle scheduling, resource allocation, routing, dispatching, and communication functions in accordance with established policies and objectives to optimize economic utilization of company assets.
  • Develop routes and stop logic and ensure customer service levels are at or above company expectations.
  • Interface with warehouse operations to ensure best practice truck loading logic is always in place using the Truck Builder software.
  • Incorporates daily and weekly vendor pickups into routing sessions. Allocates equipment and driver resources for scheduled and unscheduled deliveries, pick-ups, and other assignments.
  • Collaborates with Fleet Team to match available vehicles with delivery requirements, distance requirements and customer requirements.
  • Reviews current routing procedures, provides guidance to resolve technical problems, analyzes costs, recommends, and executes cost control measures.
  • Communicates load requisites, routes sequencing, customer accommodation and schedules with the Night Warehouse Management Team to prioritize order selection process.
  • Performs daily maintenance of Roadnet® system and incorporates real time recommendations from drivers and sales team to optimize routing performance.
  • Prints pick tickets as orders are entered, avidly problem solves pick requirements submitted passed cut off times.
  • Maintains new customers stops through validation of address, parameters, and constraints.
  • Creates and generates relevant Roadnet® and other systems reports.
  • Reviews special requests for notifications, customer pickups, and incorporations into routing sessions.
  • Communicates any truck, driver/helper, or customer related issues to the dispatch department via an end of night report.
  • Reviews routes from the previous day and adjust routing strategies/passes based on improving overall delivery performance metrics.
  • Reviews route sheets for new customers and assign windows conducive with the region in which they are located.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local DOT guidelines regarding routing time and drivers’ hours of service.
  • Handles miscellaneous activities related to routing as directed by manager.
  • Router will need to meet deadlines; must have excellent time management skills; to avoid any missed order deadlines, or a cancelation.
  • Take the initiative to learn; be trained for 2-3 weeks; and be cross trained.
  • Will need to have good math skills; will need to know the dimensions of the loads/boxes; to ship the order correctly.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of JDE, Roadnet, AS-400
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to work accurately from both written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong skillset in operating and managing emails and communicating effectively on incoming and outgoing telephone calls
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize workload in a very fast paced environment
  • Able to meet and manage deadlines
  • Knowledge of general warehouse practices
  • Perform accurate calculations and formulas
  • High degree of teamwork and providing the upmost respect for every employee on staff
  • Is consistently at work and on time
  • Maintain record keeping for all shipments
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Start time is generally 1pm or other
  • Avg. Hours 8-+10 shift (until the job is completed)

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to make decisions, solve problems, prioritize assignments and communicate to the sales and warehouse workforce in an ever-changing, warehouse environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems (Outlook, MS Excel) Ability to learn JDE, Roadnet, AS 400 and other software as needed

  • Ability to make changes at a moment notice, be self-motivated, communicate and engage with office and warehouse staff in all the company objectives
