HDR is hiring a Transportation Hydraulics Section Leader for our Tampa, Florida office to provide leadership in project delivery, business development, and the continued growth of HDR's Transportation Hydraulics Group.

The Section Leader will have administrative responsibility for staff and technical service functions while coordinating hydraulic services with other sections. This individual will ensure work is effectively planned, organized, and delivered through proactive project management while supporting strategic clients and regional growth initiatives.

Primary Duties

  • Support the Area Transportation Hydraulics Business Class Lead with strategic planning

  • Provide leadership and oversight for transportation drainage and hydraulics project delivery

  • Manage project performance related to scope, schedule, quality, and profitability

  • Lead and provide support for transportation, hydraulic and stormwater management related design and permitting of projects.

  • Develop staff through mentoring, training, and performance support while promoting team morale

  • Partner with client managers and marketing teams on business development, proposals, and client relationships

  • Represent HDR through professional organizations to enhance regional visibility

  • Coordinate project staffing and collaborate with business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in transportation hydraulics, drainage, water resources engineering, and permitting

  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Experience working with FDOT and local municipal clients

  • Strong technical background in:

    • Transportation drainage and hydraulics

    • Stormwater management and storm sewer design

    • Environmental resource permitting

    • Water quality and attenuation design

    • Resiliency and climate adaptation

  • Ability to work in the office to allow for collaboration

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
