JOB SUMMARY:
The Transportation Senior OperationsManager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the daily transportationoperation as well as managing 3rd party carriers The ideal candidatewill have strong leadership skills, experience in transportation management,and a thorough understanding of logistics in a multi-temperature environment.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
The Senior OperationsManager supervises and coordinates all activities within a multi-temperature transportationoperation. They forecast daily and weekly equipment needs, manage the budgetingand financial forecasting process for transportation, manage a routing team andthe daily routing functions, manage frontline managers, coordinate 3rd party transportation needs, including daily servicing of our business, forecastingequipment needs. They strive to maximize the efficiency of the operationthrough KPI management, such as routed cube per trailer, cost per load, costper mile, and transportation expense % sales.
ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS:
Transportation Management:
  • Partner with DC operations leadership to ensure the timely flow of merchandise to stores daily
  • Supervise and coordinate all transportation activities within the multi-temperature warehouse operations.
  • Optimize daily routing to maximize cube per trailer and minimize transportation expense
  • Coordinate store delivery schedules with Store Operations partners
  • Coordinate with 3rd party carriers daily and weekly equipment needs to ensure on time delivery to stores
  • Communicate to stores and store operations partners daily delivery ETAs and any delivery delays that arise
  • Manage the outbound spend for all transportation activities
  • Update reports and other spreadsheets to track KPIs and all financial metrics associated with transportation
  • Manage transportation transitions between DCs and carriers.
  • Respond and address issues related to transportation and customer service needs

Team Leadership:
  • Lead and motivate a team of transportation frontline managers and transportation associates.
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and quality in the transportation department.

Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure compliance with logistical standards and regulations including but not limited temperature monitoring, product traceability, and quality control measures.
  • Enforce safety protocols and quality assurance standards, conducting regular inspections, audits, and training sessions to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.

Process and PerformanceOptimization:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in transportation operations across all temperature zones.
  • Implement efficiency enhancements and streamline workflows to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and temperature monitoring devices to monitor trailer temperatures

Vendor andCustomer Management:
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, carriers, and service providers involved in product transportation and storage.
  • Collaborate with customer service teams to address customer inquiries, resolve delivery discrepancies, and provide timely updates on order status and delivery schedules.[LR1][MG2]

Budget and ContinuousImprovement:
  • Develop and manage the budget for transportation operations.
  • Monitor expenses and allocate resources effectively to support operational requirements and strategic initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in transportation operations leveraging data analysis, feedback from stakeholders, and industry best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Three to five years of experience in transportation management, with a focus on chill and/or frozen transportation operations[JA1] is preferred.
  • Certification in warehouse management and/or cold chain logistics (e.g., CSCP, GCCC) is preferred.

Skills:
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of cold chain logistics principles.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to interpret data.
  • Effective problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, manage time efficiently, and attend to details.

ENVIRONMENTALCONDITIONS:
This position is bothoffice-based and warehouse-based. The office is situated in a warehouse office settingand climate-controlled environment. However, the role also supports warehouseoperations and requires work in various parts of the warehouse. The warehouseis considered a standard multi-temperature warehouse environment where thetemperatures vary considerably:
  • General indoor warehouse temperature is partially dependent upon the outdoor temperature.
  • Chill/Produce refrigerated coolers are maintained at 40-45 degrees.
  • Frozen refrigerated coolers are maintained between 0 and 25 degrees.
  • Some of the cold environments require special uniforms.

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $140,000.00 annually. The actual startingpay will be determined by a number of qualifications, including, experience andrelevant skills.
