Job description

LMI Group LLC is looking for a Transportation & Logistics Attorney to support the legal side of our freight and transportation operations. We need someone who understands that logistics moves quickly—contracts change, delivery issues happen, and decisions often need to be made without unnecessary delay.

This position will work closely with management and the operations team on carrier agreements, customer contracts, transportation regulations, claims, and other legal matters connected to moving freight.

What You'll Handle

  • Review and negotiate carrier, customer, vendor, and transportation service agreements.
  • Provide legal guidance when questions arise around freight claims, damaged or lost shipments, delayed deliveries, and contractual responsibilities.
  • Help the operations team understand transportation rules and compliance requirements that affect daily business.
  • Review contract language before the company takes on new customers, carriers, or business arrangements.
  • Assist with disputes involving carriers, customers, vendors, or other business partners.
  • Keep an eye on regulatory changes that may affect interstate transportation and freight operations.
  • Work with insurance providers, outside attorneys, and other professionals when a matter requires additional support.
  • Help management identify legal risk early and recommend a sensible way to address it.
  • Maintain organized records of contracts, claims, legal correspondence, and active matters.

What We're Looking For

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active and in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • Experience with transportation law, logistics, commercial contracts, corporate law, or regulatory matters.
  • Strong contract review and negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with motor carrier, freight brokerage, interstate commerce, or transportation regulations is preferred.
  • Able to communicate legal issues in straightforward business terms.
  • Good judgment and the ability to work independently when a matter needs timely attention.
  • Professional discretion when handling confidential company, customer, and employee information.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience $105,000 - $150,000.
  • Medical and health benefit options.
  • Paid vacation and personal time.
  • Paid company holidays.
  • Retirement plan options.
  • Professional development and continuing legal education support.
  • Direct involvement with company leadership and business operations.
  • Opportunity to grow with the company as its transportation network and customer base expand.
