Driver- Part Time (Pool)

Position Information

Job Title - Driver- Part Time (Pool)

Job Description - GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION: The Driver is responsible for the operation and minor maintenance of college-owned equipment to include, but not limited to; buses, vehicles, and equipment. The incumbent reports directly to the Director of Transportation Services – District Office.

Job Duties - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as chief operator/driver of a college bus while transporting individuals on college-approved trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Be responsible for buses, vehicles, and equipment assigned to him/her for operation and report any issues to the Superintendent of Transportation or the appropriate college personnel.
  • Maintain maintenance records on buses, vehicles and equipment.
  • Change oil filters and perform other service tasks on buses, vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Repair or assist in repairing of buses, vehicles and/or equipment deemed to be repairable by the Superintendent of Transportation.
  • Wash, vacuum, clean, fuel and perform a maintenance check on assigned college vehicles for daily operation.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner that reflects well on the college at all times.
  • Abiding by the college's Drug Free Workplace policy to include while on college assigned trips.
  • Abiding by all college policies and procedures.
  • Possess and maintain in good standing a Mississippi Commercial Class A or B License with the mandatory required endorsements on himself/herself at all times.
  • Maintain an updated and valid Department of Transportation Medical Card.
  • Maintain daily trip logs of mileage, number of students, trip destinations, and other requested/required information.
  • Utilize college vehicles for official college business only.
  • Complete at least 15 clock hours of approved employee development annually.
  • Be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications - MANDATORY:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent;
  • Possess a Mississippi Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Class A with Passenger (P) endorsement or a Class B with a Passenger (P) and Airbrake endorsement;
  • Be capable of lifting at least 50lbs;
  • Be eligible to be covered by college fleet insurance;
  • Be capable of Traveling overnight on a regular basis and driving long routes when necessary according to the standards of the Department of Transportation;
  • Posses effective oral and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications - DESIRABLE:

  • Possess certification and/or experience as a mechanic and/or possess other automotive safety and repair certifications;
  • Prior experience operating large construction equipment;
  • Associate Degree.
