Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Civil Construction Manager for Transportation related work.

Based in any of our larger Alberta or BC offices, we are seeking a motivated candidate who combines strong technical and construction management skills with a keen ability to ensure that construction remains on schedule and within budget.  The role includes responsibility for providing leadership in the performance management of activities related to the execution of construction work within the Transportation sector.  This includes a wide range of responsibilities including planning, cost control, materials management, contract/work force administration, safety/incident prevention, quality, security, and change management.  If you have a successful track record and thrive on challenges in a fast-paced environment, this is a great opportunity for you.

 

Day to day work could include office and field duties as follows:

  • Assisting Engineers with design work for road and highway construction projects
  • Coordinate and participate in road inspections
  • Coordinate and supervise survey crews, material inspectors & contractors
  • Preliminary engineering of new roads and road rehabilitations
  • Detailed design and design checks of roads/highways
  • Preparation of tender documents
  • Construction and post-construction engineering
  • Contract preparation and administration, including RFI's, NCR's and Change Orders, etc
  • Liaise with existing clients, involvement with proposals and project presentations
  • Ensuring construction work is executed as per engineering drawings & specifications
Skills / Qualifications
  • 15 + years of relevant construction experience.  CET, P.Tech, EIT or P.Eng. designation would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the use of AutoCAD, Civil 3d, and other road design software would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Transportation/Infrastructure work and Construction Standards (AB Transportation and BC MoTI) is required for this role
  • Demonstrated experience supervising highway construction and base paving operations is required for this role
  • Experience working as an Engineering Consultant is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written at multiple levels of an organization
  • Effective people management skills required for this role
  • Must have an unrestructed Class 5 driver's license valid in the provinces of Alberta and BC and access to a vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed)
  • Must be able to travel out of town and be willing to work extended hours as required
  • Experience with Site Safety management is considered an asset
  • Available to travel within Alberta and British Columbia
