Charter Operations Manager

Are you an experienced transportation professional who knows how to turn operational capacity into business opportunity?

Prairie Bus Lines is looking for a Charter Operations Manager to lead and grow our charter operations in Red Deer and the surrounding area. While school transportation is at the heart of our business, this role presents an exciting opportunity to maximize the use of our existing fleet and resources by developing and expanding charter business within the region.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands transportation operations, knows the local market and geography, and can balance customer service, operational efficiency, safety, and business growth. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day charter operation, including operational coordination, safety and related training, while identifying opportunities to strengthen and grow the charter business.

The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility to provide leadership and operational support during the evenings as required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Charter operations team
  • Respond to customer requests and seek out additional charter work
  • Maintain awareness of current industry trends and changes
  • Assist in the development of operational budgets and forecasts
  • Review monthly financials and report on variances
  • Investigate and initiate change to improve operations systems and procedures
  • Recruit, manage, supervise, and direct personnel
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities of personnel, ensuring all charter requests are covered in the most profitable and efficient manner
  • Work closely with the Maintenance and Operations departments to ensure adequate numbers and sizes of units are available to cover all requests
  • Prepare monthly billing
  • Attend safety meetings
  • Establish and maintain relationships with current and future clients
  • Adhere to company's Core Values, and achieve its strategic goals

Requirements

  • 3+ years operations and management experience with strength in planning and scheduling
  • Experience with profit/loss analysis
  • Budget creation and management experience
  • Familiarity with the people transportation industry
  • Ability to manage multiple contracts
  • Expertise in organizational planning and problem solving
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal laws & regulations pertaining to industry requirements
  • Knowledge of WCB and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial statements
  • Exceptional organizational, analytic problem solving, and diplomacy skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally while exhibiting confidentiality and tact
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
