About this Role

Irby Construction Company, a Quanta Services company, is seeking an experienced Regional Controller to lead the accounting function for its steel division operations based in Texas. This role owns job cost accounting, monthly financial reporting, billing, forecasting, and budgeting for the region's active transmission and related construction projects, and directly manages accounting support staff.

The Regional Controller partners closely with regional operations leadership - project managers, superintendents, and the Regional VP/GM - as well as Irby's corporate finance and accounting organization, translating field activity and job cost detail into accurate, timely financial results and sound business recommendations.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and manage day-to-day accounting operations for Irby's steel division, including job cost accounting, customer billing/invoicing, and monthly financial reporting across all active projects.
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and develop a team of project accountants and accounting support staff; participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the regional accounting function.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between steel division operations leadership (project managers, superintendents, and the Regional VP/GM) and Irby's corporate finance and accounting organization.
  • Oversee job set-up, budget loading, and change order processing for new and existing projects to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policy.
  • Review job cost detail, work-in-process (WIP) schedules, and cost-to-complete projections with project managers on a recurring basis; identify and help resolve over/under-billing, invalid open commitments, and budget variances.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process for the steel division, including WIP true-up, project closure, and job cost reporting to corporate.
  • Lead monthly forecast preparation and submittal (revenue, margin, and operating expenses) for the region; independently articulate variances to forecast, budget, and prior periods.
  • Ensure customer invoicing and collections for the region are timely, accurate, and consistent with contract terms.
  • Maintain and enforce sound internal controls and GAAP compliance across all regional accounting activity; support internal and external audit requests.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to project management and field operations personnel; deliver ad hoc training on job costing, WIP, and financial procedures as needed.
  • Partner with corporate accounting/finance on systems and process improvements (e.g., JD Edwards/Oracle, Hyperion, EcoSys, or similar platforms).
  • Travel periodically to project sites and corporate/regional offices throughout to support project teams and provide on-site financial oversight.
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc reporting and analysis as assigned.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Prior experience directly supervising or managing accounting staff required.
  • CPA license, or active CPA candidacy, strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the construction or utility/electric power industry strongly preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP and job costing / percentage-of-completion accounting methods.
  • Proficiency with ERP and financial systems (e.g., JD Edwards/Oracle, Hyperion, EcoSys, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, people, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Location, Travel & Work Authorization

This is an on-site position based in Quinlan, Texas. This role is not eligible for remote work. Some travel to project sites and corporate/regional offices is required.
