Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: Developsand maintains systems to promote high levels of patient, employee and physiciansatisfaction;as well as external customer satisfaction. Assumes24 hourdepartment accountability. Responsible for assuring adequate staffing andmaintainingappropriate productivitystandards. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the care of patients in designated areas. Provides patient careutilizingthe nursing process-assessment, care planning, implementation, and reassessment- foridentifiedpopulationper the Colorado Nurse Practice Act. Documents patient care; coordinates interdisciplinary communication and care;participateson hospital committees;facilitateunit meetings. Develops and implements unit specific competencies; annual performance of staff; supervises RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s,MST’s, and Unit Secretaries. Provides coaching and counseling for employees asappropriate; supervises unit scheduling; monitors and addresses call-ins.  


Develops unit specific goals including: program development, quality improvements and patient safety initiatives.

Position Requirements 

 Licensure/Certification/Registration:  

1. Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate nursing licensure. 

2. Current BCLS& ACLS certification through AHA or ARC required. AWHONN preferred.

 Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required. Graduate of a certified school of nursing required. 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years clinical RN experience required. Three years progressive supervisory or management experience preferred. 

 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the practice of nursing theory and process. Demonstrates the ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services. Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Participates in counseling and guidance of personnel. Ability to assume leadership role with the health team in planning and delivery of patient care.
