Job description

Position Summary


The Veterans Transition Center of California (VTC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering veterans to move from crisis to self-sufficiency through housing, supportive services, and advocacy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Supervision of Work Alternative Program, Community Service & Volunteer
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors; clean windows, mirrors, and partitions; dust furniture, walls, and equipment; clean & sanitize restrooms and replenish
  • Trash and Waste Management: Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste materials
  • Minor Maintenance: Replace light bulbs, perform basic repairs that will be assigned through MaintainX and report larger maintenance issues to
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including mowing lawns, trimming trees, raking leaves, and keeping sidewalks clear.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper use.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage and ensure safety; occasionally inspect fire alarms, heating/cooling systems, and other safety
  • Monthly Cleaning of each Fleet Vehicle
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Skills and Qualifications


  • Physical endurance and strength to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy
  • Attention to detail and diligence in cleaning and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor or Director of
  • Good communication skills for reporting Issues and interacting with staff or visitors in a calm, clear and respectful manner.


Requirements


Employees of Veterans Transition of California are expected to be present during standard operating hours, which are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Whenever possible, personal appointments should be scheduled outside of these hours to ensure availability during the workday and give 2 weeks' notice prior to all anticipated absences.

It is expected that 80% of the Custodian's time will be spent cleaning Martinez Hall & Completing Bedroom turnovers in all housing units on Hayes Circle & 20% of their time will be spent doing yard/outdoor maintenance.

It is expected that all cleaning will be thorough and sanitary and of pleasant smell as this is the prime objective of this position.

Custodian is expected to work alongside Work Alternative Program, Community Service & Volunteer workers
