JOB SUMMARY
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS NON-BARGAINING UNIT AND THE INCUMBENT SHALL SERVE IN AN "AT-WILL" CAPACITY.
This position may be assigned to either our Riverside or Hemet locations. Applicants must be available to work 7 days per week, including holidays and all shifts.
The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting to fill serval vacancies in the Maintenance Department. This position supervises maintenance and facilities employees, monitors productivity and ensures compliance with Agency rules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are standard for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
  • Assigns work, coordinating employee activities to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Assists in the diagnosis of mechanical failures, rebuilding, repairs or replacement of various vehicle components and systems.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates and recommendations regarding feasibility of major repairs.
  • Monitors the maintenance of facilities.
  • Ensures maintenance is performed on all RTA vehicles and organizes vehicle maintenance files accordingly.
  • Schedules and coordinates vehicle maintenance with dispatchers to maximize service and vehicle availability.
  • Coordinates and monitors the preventative maintenance program.
  • Supervises and evaluates the work of all subordinate maintenance employees.
  • Performs as a mechanic in extreme emergencies.
  • Trains employees in occupational health, safety, vehicle maintenance and equipment operation.
  • Selects and assigns staff, assuring equal opportunity in hiring, promotion, and other employment practices; identifies staff development needs and assures that training is obtained; assures that proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
  • Adheres to shop safety standards and all documentation requirements. Enforces safety rules and procedures. Ensures federal, state and local hazardous material laws are followed.
  • Prepares a variety of daily reports and maintains databases monitoring fleet maintenance, performance and activity.
  • Coordinates the performance of maintenance contracts.
  • Holds daily tailgate and monthly safety meetings.
  • Prepares and gives employee reviews and administers discipline as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises mechanics, servicers, and community service workers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, labor contract, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The desired candidate must have a high school education or equivalent to journeyman mechanic status; an AA/AS degree is desired. Must have three years of experience working on heavy-duty equipment or buses, and must have at least one year of supervisory experience maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and/or alternative fuel buses.
OR
At least one year at Riverside Transit Agency and has three years of experience working on heavy-duty equipment or buses. Additional related experience, education, or training is highly desirable and may be considered in place of supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, decimals, area, circumference and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge of basic office equipment and personal computers. Must be familiar with industry fleet management systems, software, and other programs such as Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel, Access, etc.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Requires appropriate license(s) with endorsements and certificates to operate a passenger motor coach. Automotive Refrigeration certificates are also required.
Upon appointment to the position:
Ability to obtain a valid California Class A/B Commercial License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements within 90 days of employment. Ability to complete and pass the company's Driver Certification program by the completion of the introductory period. Class B Permit is required at the time of hire.
A current DMV Drivers History Report (30 days or less) must be provided with the application and must show no suspensions within the past five (5) years, no more than three (3) points within the past three (3) years and no two (2) point violations within the past three (3) years. FAILURE TO PROVIDE A CURRENT DMV Driver's History Report WILL RESULT IN YOUR APPLICATION BEING INCOMPLETE.
