WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Planning & TOD Intern will support CapMetro's Transit-Oriented Development and Service Planning teams by assisting with research, analysis, community engagement, and project coordination for transit and redevelopment initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in urban planning, transit operations, GIS, and cross-departmental collaboration to help advance key agency projects.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university with a major in Urban or Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Business, Real Estate, or related field.
- Experience in transit and/or urban and regional planning
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of community and land use planning and transportation/transit planning
- Excellent research and analytical skills, including data analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to make persuasive and clear presentations to both internal and external audiences
- Strong organizational skills
- Must have adept people skills and professional courteous behavior
- Knowledge of real estate, affordable housing, public-private partnerships preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for performing work of a complex nature.
Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment.
Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.

Mobility Status:
As a Mobile position, the incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed. There will be access to touchdown/collaboration spaces when on site. Must be in-office for socialization, strategic collaboration, supervision, oversight, and accountability as needed. CapMetro reserves the right to modify work status based on business needs.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Coordinate with TOD and Service Planning teams to align planning documents, standards, and project needs
- Use ArcGIS and other analytical tools to create maps, conduct geospatial analysis, and support planning efforts
- Support internal engagement, including meeting coordination, agenda setting, and detailed notetaking across departments
- Conduct research and assist with drafting, writing, and editing planning documents, technical memos, presentations, reports, and grant (and other funding opportunities) applications
- Support the TOD team across all major projects including preparing and procuring studies, materials, documentation, and technical assistance needed to advance a site(s) through the development process
- Assist with peer reviews of standards and best practices across agencies
- Assist with community engagement activities and represent CapMetro in neighborhood, local, and regional planning forums
- Participate in field reviews related to bus stop improvements, route changes, or TOD site evaluations
- Submit and manage creative requests with the marketing team to update graphics and materials
- Develop responses to public inquiries, including customer call reports (CCRs)
- Support CapMetro's Safety Management Systems (SMS) by following all safety and security policies and reporting safety concerns
