Job description

Surveying Intern | Walker, MN

Thispostingis for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring a Surveying Intern in Walker, MN. Over 10-12 weeks, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, site drainage and grading design, and learning the Civil Engineering trade.

This internship offers hands-on project experience while supporting project documentation, site observations, and cross-functional collaboration to help meet project goals and client expectations. You will gain exposure to work acrosssurvey, tribal, and public works markets.

What You'll Do

  • Assistwith project design work for discipline systemsin accordance withcode and IMEG standards

  • Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources for project needs

  • Support client communication, project documentation, and permanent record files

  • Coordinate design and schedule needs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier partners

  • Document design decisions, meetings, client instructions, and project progress

  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check

  • Help prepare and issue addendum information

  • Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement

What You'll Bring

Required

Education

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

  • May berequiredtoassistwith field duties like surveying and materials testing

  • Strong interest in design consulting

  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CADsoftwareand BIM

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds

  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull

  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

  • Survey-driven civil team across Montana and northern Minnesota with strong tribal and public-works work

  • Tribal infrastructure for Fort Peck, Red Lake, and Crow Tribe including road realignment and transit facilities

  • Water system improvements, roadway design, and wetland delineation for county and municipal clients

  • Recent work includes Fort Peck Milk River Road Realignment,Transportation;Crow Transit Building, Government; and Havre Water System Improvements, Water/Wastewater.

State of Minnesota Pay Range: $22-24 per hour

The range listed aboverepresentsthe base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work locationidentifiedabove at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.

Individual compensation will bedeterminedbased on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
