Dispatcher - Tri Delta Transit
Hourly Wage Range: $26.00 โ€“ $38.00

Role Purpose:
Dispatchers provide direction, communications with all operators whileย monitoringย system performance and making scheduling adjustments where necessary to maximize on-time performance, minimize customer wait times for on-call or will-call services, minimize service disruptionsย because ofย vehicle/operator availability and/or emergency situations.ย These personnelย willย alsoย be responsible forย maintainingย communications with all vehicles in service and forย maintainingย a daily dispatch log.ย 
ย 
ย Knowledge and Experience:
  • At leastย 2ย yearsโ€™ย radio and/or window dispatch experience in aย fast-pacedย environmentย ย 
  • Transit environment experience preferredย ย 
  • Must haveย a valid California Class A or B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsementsย ย 
  • Must have aย current Verification of Transit Training (VTT) certificate prior to entering revenue service.ย ย ย 
  • Transportation Dispatching Software knowledge desiredย ย 
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suiteย

Key Accountabilities:ย 

  • Dispatch shall conduct a visual inspectionย of driversย to ensure proper uniform, present a professional appearance, and are prepared for service. Dispatchers shall also verify that driversย possessย all required credentials, including but not limited to a Commercial Driverโ€™s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement, medical certificate, and any other documentation necessary for service.ย ย 
  • Must be proficient in computer use and capable of managing multiple complex tasks simultaneously.ย ย ย 
  • Successful completion ofย Keolisโ€™ย formal driver training program.ย ย 
  • Dispatchers are expected to promptly notify designatedย Keolis andย Eastern Contra Costa Transit Authority (ECCTA)ย staff via email of any unusual occurrences that result in significant service delays (15+ย minuteย or more) as they arise. Dispatchers must be prepared toย demonstrateย proficiencyย in managing and fullyย utilizingย the tools andย systemย provided by ECCTA following the completion of required training.ย ย 
  • This includes the knowledge and ability to post route information, such as significant service disruptions, unplanned detours, and stop closures, across various digital channels, including the Tri Delta Transit website.ย ย ย 
  • Dispatchersย areย responsible forย responding to, and making necessary adjustments in responseย to,ย both planned and unplanned detours.ย ย 
  • Dispatchersย willย disseminateย information on detours toย the operators.ย Such information shall include but is not limitedย to:ย affected routes and trip directions, turn-by-turn detour instructions, bus stop closures or missed stops, and temporary boarding and alighting provisions, and the expected duration of the event or project.ย ย ย 
  • Dispatchersย are responsible forย accuratelyย recording operatorsโ€™ย workย assignments, timeย workedย andย allย call offs in theย dispatch software.ย ย 
  • Assign work, vehicles and onboard equipment to operators andย maintainย check-out logsย ย 
  • Assign operatorsย in the event ofย operator absences, increased service volumesย in order toย minimize service disruptionsย as a result ofย traffic, vehicle malfunctions, operatorย problemsย and/or emergency situationsย ย 
  • Maintain communication with operators, providing information on customers, cancellations, and directionalย assistanceย where necessaryย ย 
  • Monitor operators and trip status,ย adjustsย and reassignments as necessary to ensure on time performanceย ย 
  • Provide assistance toย operatorsย in the event ofย emergency or vehicle malfunctions, communicating with operationsย andย safety staff where appropriateย ย 
  • Reschedule trips as necessaryย in the event ofย vehicle malfunction, traffic, or emergency situationsย ย 
  • Reconcile trip manifests by operatorswhenย requiredย ย 
  • Provide assistance toย passengers in using the service as well as when inquiring about individual trip statusย ย 
  • Document accurately and appropriately daily events related to serviceย ย 
  • Collect any lost and found articles and catalog,ย attemptย to contactย appropriate passengersย where possibleย ย 
  • Maintain a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employeesย ย 
  • Establish andย monitorย on-time performanceย ย 
  • Willย maintainย โ€œexceptionsโ€ and โ€œincidentsโ€ logย ย 
  • Willย assistย drivers with informational material as neededย ย 
  • Willย operateย revenue service andย assistย passengers based on business needย ย 
  • Report to supervisors and duty managers any driversย failing to meetย assignedย dutiesย ย 
  • Other duties as assignedย
