Job description

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Manager Engineering Project Management - Transformer Specialist oversees Calpine's Transformer Reliability Program for all transformer assets and will be a technical authority for all types of transformers. Key responsibilities include technical guidance on maintenance and testing of distribution and large power transformers, technical lead for repair projects, provide guidance for diagnostic tests (oil, power factor, SFRA, etc.), internal inspections, factory inspections and audits and conducting root cause analysis for failures to ensure reliability and safety.
This position will provide technical liaison between the plants and Calpine management as well as technical leadership to both internal and external entities. The successful candidate will also work with others to manage critical spare transformer components and accessories to be held in inventory. Responsible for developing execution plans to achieve project milestones and to minimize costs for several different project areas. Establishes project strategy and monitors critical path schedules and deliverables. Ensures all projects are executed in a manner that supports established strategies. May provide oversight for Project Managers, and selects, develops, and evaluates staff to ensure efficient operation of the Engineering Project Management function. The position will also involve mentoring and training junior engineers.
This job will be split between office, travel to the plants and/or other locations such as transformer factories and vendor offices.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education. Master's Degree preferred.
Previous work leadership or senior level contributor experience.
Typically requires minimum of 10+ years in area of specialization.
Job Requirements
Expert level experience with diagnostic tools and transformer electrical testing, oil sampling and dissolved gas analysis, and transformer maintenance.
Experienced in the diagnosis and repair of faulty transformers.
Demonstrate ability to analyze test results to determine the health index and remaining lifespan of equipment.
Extensive site work at utility substations, power generation facilities or industrial sites
Has managed contractors or internal employees at some level on projects.
Has written, reviewed, and checked Specifications, Proposals, Quotes, Contracts, Purchase Orders, and other relevant project documents.
Has worked safely on or around HV, MV, and LV systems in hazardous environments such as power plants and substations.
Has strong supervisory technical and leadership skills.
Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Has demonstrated the ability to work as a technical lead in an autonomous role

  • Salary Range: $154,231.89 - $196,645.66
