Power Transformer Test Engineer

Northern Transformer is a Canadian-owned, fast growing manufacturer of substation and mobile power transformers. Our team delivers transformers of the highest quality through superior design, quality workmanship and attention to our clients’ individual needs.

In this role, you will provide overall test bay support, creating and executing test plans for high power transformers to ensure their functionality and reliability. This role involves a deep understanding of power transformer technology and testing methodologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviewing customer specifications with engineering and marketing during project review to verify all testing requirements necessary for the transformer.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate transformer test plans to customer.
  • Analyze, select and maintain appropriate test equipment required to perform transformer tests according to ANSI, IEC and IEEE testing standards.
  • Develop internal test procedures that optimize transformer testing activities.
  • Provide guidance, training and support to test technicians performing transformer tests.
  • Support scheduling time forecasts required for transformer testing.
  • Diagnose and analyze test results to help resolve issues related to transformer performance by identifying potential product defects or equipment deficiencies.
  • Remain aware of all advancements in transformer testing technologies and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree from an accredited four (4) year university or college, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Ontario P.Eng accreditation preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of transformer manufacturing experience.
  • Have current work authorization for employment in Canada
  • Ability to learn and improve processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly competent in teamwork and collaboration
  • Passionate and energetic self-starter
