Lead Technician
The Lead Technician will perform professional and administrative work training the maintenance staff. Additionally, the maintenance trainer will assist in the diagnosis of vehicles that present elusive or extreme problems. The maintenance trainer will also develop training material and ensure that the department has the latest in diagnosing software and tools. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
- Daily review with the Quality Assurance Manager and Foreman of the Road Call report and daily Down List to identify any Check Engine Light (CEL), Multifunction Indicator Light (MIL), SCR, DEF, Stop Engine, No Charge Lights, etc.
- Ability to read schematics well and diagnose buses within or before the “Industry and Transdev” standard times.
- Ability to learn and understand complex systems.
- Must attend and be certified with RTD Training Classes.
- Knowledge of I/O Systems with the ability to learn new systems.
- Knowledge of ZF Transmissions.
- Research road-calls daily to identify and prevent repeaters.
- Review work orders to ensure proper diagnosis was performed on buses and setup one-on-one training to educate Technicians.
- Work closely with the QC Manager to train and implement new standards in the shop.
- Train and document of all technicians in the shop on existing and new findings on buses and training.
- Be readily available to assist Technicians in need of diagnostic assistance.
- Identify when an issue becomes a “fleet defect” and track and report accordingly.
- Review parts to ensure quality before installation.
- Track failures and repeat problems.
- Monitor technician performance and productivity.
- Monitor “Come-Back” work from technicians and report, re-train and document accordingly.
- Knowledge in DEF/SCR Systems
- Must have deep knowledge of Cummins In-Site program and able to use at an advanced level.
- Create, sign-up and track status of all employees obtaining ASE certifications.
- Monitor all diagnostic laptops and ensure all programs are current and licensing is renewed before expiration dates.
- Create and present diagnostic and training material during monthly shop safety meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of automotive and transit equipment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of alternate fuel engines and/or internal combustion engines, automatic transmissions, air brakes, steering and drivelines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of online fleet diagnostic software including Cummins In-Site, Quick serve, Webco, ZF Transmission, I/O, and other required.
- Possess an understanding of the theory of electricity.
- Able to read and understand wiring diagrams.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to work with Word and Excel.
- Must obtain ASE Master certification in “H” Series within 18 months.
- Ability to obtain a “Class B” commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement.
- Prior experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Fleet field experience a plus.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination and a drug test.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must complete and sign the Transdev employment application in its entirety.

Physical Requirements:
- The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- 70% of work is accomplished in an open garage facility/outdoors.
- 30% of the job is in an air-conditioned office.
- Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 75 pounds.
- There is regular exposure to vehicle exhaust fumes, dust and dirt, parts cleaning chemicals, gas, diesel and DEF fluid, oils, anti-freeze and other chemicals found to be in a diesel repair shop.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions. This includes working outside during adverse weather conditions when needed.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Must be able to obtain a Forklift certification if needed. Training provided on property.
- Must be able to obtain a “Class B” CDL License if needed. Training and testing provided on property.
- The work environment is outdoors/indoors in a typical shop setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud.
