SHIFT:
Onsite - 9:30AM - 6:00PM - Monday - Friday with a once a month weekend rotation.
SUMMARY:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Transcriptionist to join our team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical transcription and a solid understanding of medical terminology. This role requires linguistic accuracy, transcribing accuracy and professionalism.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Operates within the LIS system which include the following specific specimen tasks: case status, printing appropriate format of reports, printing reports to a printer or fax, entering case comments, change or adding a requesting physician, issuing a corrected report, issuing a supplemental report, issuing preliminary report, searching cases by case list, typing results.
    • Accurately transcribes gross and final dictations. Assigns the correct Pathologist to the case and sends the case to the Pathologist's queue.
    • Accurately transcribes Physician correspondence including, but not limited to, letters, slide loan forms, consultations, notes and memos.
    • Answers requests by Physicians inquiring about the progress and status of Pathology reports, within the limits of PGL policies and confidentiality laws.
    • Properly distributes reports to clients and Physicians as requested.
    • Understands and maintains the organization of the filing system; can retrieve documents in a timely fashion and knows how to initiate data retrieval if the information is not located in the file.
    • Occasionally acts as liaison in scheduling pathologists for procedures at outside facilities.
    • Occasinoally updates the Pathologist's Event Calendar when procedures are scheduled (such as frozen sections and FNAs), when meetings are scheduled or cancelled.
    • Prints a pending list from the LIS system and reviews for cases that are delayed.
    • Investigates and resolves the delay if possible and notifies pathologists of pending cases that are ready for verification.
    • Complies with the clerical duties in relation to billing activities, this includes ensuring the dictated CPT codes and the appropriate ICD code are transcribed on the reports.
    • Prints reports and assists billing with ICD codes.
    • Reviews and adheres to new policies, procedures, and safety standards.
    • Reports concerns and issues of non-compliance to the Transcription Supervisor and/or Compliance Officer for follow-up.
    • Participates in meetings and educational activities when available to enhance professional growth and development.
    • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
  • Prior experience in medical transcription preferred.
  • Excellent typing skills with minimal errors.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and editing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • A skills assessment/sample transcribing will be part of the interview process

  • Must possess above average spelling aptitude and typing skills and have some knowledge of medical terminology;
