Job Description
JOB TITLE: DISPATCHER
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Dispatch and schedule the daily bus routing of home-to-school transportation. To dispatch and schedule any sport/field trips or other activities. Operate a school bus for transporting students on regular routes and/or special trips.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide assistance to bus driver staff regarding routes, stops and times.
2. Helps plan regular bus schedules.
3. Assigns daily work schedules for substitute drivers.
4. Schedules all field/sport trips or other activities.
5. Assists in scheduling of trip board.
6. Maintains records and develops reports.
7. Insures that District Policies and Department procedures are followed.
8. Transports students safely to and from school, escort them as needed across streets,
etc.
9. Records and logs information regarding transportation activities.
10. Does routine stated District bus safety checkouts. Reports needed repairs.
11. Maintains order and enforces rules on bus; completes accident and discipline records.
12. Confers with parents as needed.
13. Maintains bus in clean condition inside, and out as required.
14. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted in the
course of work.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and methods of bus routing/scheduling procedures, law rules and regulations pertaining to operation of a school bus; safe driving practices and procedures; two-way radio communication skills; student discipline techniques; modern office methods and practices.
Ability to;
Prepare safe an efficient bus routes and stops; operate computer; quickly learn new computer programs; collect and organize data and information; communicate over two-way radio in a clear and concise manner; stay calm in emergency situations; communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; apply problem solving processes and techniques; understand, implement and give oral and written instructions in English.
Experience:
Minimum requirement: successful work experience. Experience driving a school bus. Clerical and computer experience.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
License Requirements:
A valid California driver's license class A or B, a valid California school bus certificate, a valid first aid certificate.
Supervision:
Under general supervision of the Director of Transportation.
