Location: Frank Carlson Federal Building – Topeka, KS

About the Role

TeamGOV is seeking experienced HVAC Mechanics to support a newly awarded federal facilities operations and maintenance contract at the Frank Carlson Federal Building in Topeka, Kansas.

This position supports the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of large commercial HVAC and building mechanical systems within a federal facility. The HVAC Mechanic will play a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable building operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for technicians who have experience working with large commercial systems such as boilers, chillers, air handlers, and building automation components.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on large commercial HVAC systems.

Diagnose and repair heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment within the facility.

Maintain and service equipment including:

Boilers

ChillersHot water heating systemsDomestic water plumbing systemsAir handling units (AHUs)

Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) building systems.

Conduct system inspections to identify operational issues and recommend repairs.

Monitor HVAC system performance to ensure efficient and reliable operation.

Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate service records.

Follow all federal facility safety standards and maintenance protocols.

Coordinate with facility maintenance teams to support building operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience working on large commercial HVAC systems.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Universal EPA or CFC Certification required.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment.

Experience maintaining mechanical systems in commercial or institutional facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical or vocational training in HVAC or mechanical systems.

N.A.T.E. (North American Technician Excellence) certification, or ability to obtain.

Experience working in government facilities, hospitals, universities, or large commercial buildings.

Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) is a plus.

Work Environment

Federal government facility environment.

Work may involve mechanical rooms, rooftops, and facility equipment areas.

Ability to lift tools and equipment, climb ladders, and perform physical maintenance tasks may be required.
