Job description

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Counselor in Training Program Lead to join our Summer 2026 team.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As a Counselor in Training Program Lead, you will be responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to the Summer Day Camp Coordinator and ensuring quality supervision and program execution. This role is responsible for leading counselor in training (CIT) participants with a goal of ensuring the safety of all children at camp, while planning and leading group activities daily.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and lead weekly camp program for counselor in training participants.
  • Implement theme and character development activities into all camp programming.
  • Plan, lead and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
  • Assist in managing day to day operations.
  • Create weekly calendar of activities for counselor in training participants.
  • Monitor group roster daily ensuring all counselor in training participants are accounted for.
  • Monitor and coach performance of assigned counselor in training participants.
  • Regularly support and encourage staff, and assist program director with camp staff evaluations.
  • Assist in supervision of counselor in training participants.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Are you a good fit?
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations.
  • Experience working with youth ages 13-17 (preferred)
  • Minimum one-year experience in summer day camp. (preferred)
  • Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age appropriate techniques.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Wage: $18.72 to $20.85 per hour, (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)
