Electrical / Instrumentation Training Developer
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical / Instrumentation Training Developer to support technical training initiatives within an industrial operations environment. This individual will play a key role in developing practical, field-focused training materials for technicians and operations personnel, with an emphasis on creating effective learning content that aligns with real-world maintenance and operational tasks.
The ideal candidate will possess hands-on technical knowledge in electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, and troubleshooting, along with experience developing structured technical training programs. This role requires someone who can effectively communicate with field technicians and subject matter experts (SMEs), understand operational workflows at the employee level, and translate complex technical processes into clear, user-friendly training materials and templates.
This position will support the development of Instructor-Led Training (ILT), structured On-the-Job Training (OJT), hands-on technical training materials, procedures, and related documentation for industrial operations personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain technical training materials for electrical and instrumentation technicians in an industrial environment
Create curriculum outlines, lesson plans, training templates, hands-on exercises, structured OJT materials, and supporting documentation
Work closely with field personnel, supervisors, and SMEs to gather technical information and understand day-to-day operational tasks
Translate technical processes and troubleshooting procedures into effective training content for frontline employees
Support the design and development of Instructor-Led Training (ILT), hands-on training programs, and competency-based learning materials
Ensure training materials are accurate, standardized, and aligned with operational and safety procedures
Participate in training material reviews and incorporate feedback from operations and technical teams
Apply Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies and adult learning principles in the development process
Travel occasionally to Midland, TX to observe operations, gather data, and collaborate with SMEs and project stakeholders
Work independently while managing multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience developing technical training materials in an industrial, manufacturing, energy, military, or oil & gas environment
Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, instrumentation, controls, troubleshooting, and industrial maintenance concepts
Experience developing ILT, structured OJT, hands-on training, or technical documentation
Knowledge of the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage effectively with technicians, operators, and SMEs
Ability to understand complex technical processes and create practical training content for frontline employees
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
Oil & Gas, Energy, Petrochemical, Refining, Pipeline, or Industrial Manufacturing experience preferred
Previous experience supporting technician training programs in electrical or instrumentation disciplines
Military technical training experience strongly considered, particularly Navy EM (Electrician's Mate) or ET (Electronics Technician) backgrounds
Experience with competency-based training programs and field operations training
