Job description

Training and Development SpecialistPosition Summary

As a Training and Development Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of our training programs. You will be responsible for assessing training needs, organizing training courses, coordinating with stakeholders and facilitating training sessions for both new hires and existing employees. Your primary objective will be to develop and implement effective training strategies that align with our organizational goals and objectives. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with department heads, Managers, Workforce Board Staff, and Operations Coordinators to identify training needs and objectives. 
  • Coordinate training schedules and logistics, in collaboration with the Training Coordinator.
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars both in-person and virtually. 
  • Develop training materials, presentations, and other resources to support learning objectives. 
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and gather feedback from participants to make continuous improvements. 
  • Manage and administer learning management systems ensuring content is up to date and accessible.
  • Monitor participant progress, track training metrics, and generate reports to measure the impact of training initiatives. 
  • Continuously assess training effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements. 
  • Stay up to date on policy, industry trends and best practices in training and development. 
Travel Requirements

Requires travel and employees must comply with the organization’s safe driving policy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and connect with diverse audiences.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience as a Training Specialist or similar role.
  • Strong facilitation, instructional design, and evaluation skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in LMS platforms and eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate 360, Camtasia).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and learning management systems (LMS) experience with eLearning software including Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, and Camtasia is a plus.

  • Passion for learning and curating high-quality learning experiences for all staff.
Key Deliverables:
  • Training Calendar: Develop a training calendar outlining the schedule of training sessions for the next quarter. This calendar should include dates, times, locations, and topics for both new hire onboarding and ongoing employee development programs.
  • Training Materials Repository: Create a centralized repository for training materials, including presentations, manuals, videos, and other resources. Organize these materials for easy access and distribution to trainers and participants.
  • Training Program Evaluation Plan: Establish a plan for evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop assessment tools such as surveys or quizzes to measure learning outcomes and participant satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Strategy: Engage with department heads, managers, and key stakeholders to gather input and feedback on training needs and priorities. Build relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of training initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Training Session Facilitation Guide: Create a facilitation guide for trainers to ensure consistency and effectiveness in delivering training sessions. This guide should include tips for engaging participants, managing group dynamics, and addressing common challenges.
  • Feedback Mechanism Implementation: Implement a feedback mechanism to gather feedback from participants after each training session. Establish a process for collecting, analyzing, and acting on feedback to continuously improve training content and delivery
