Job Advertisement The City of Lansing is seeking a skilled Mechanic Trainee to join the Fleet Services Division. Requires overtime for emergencies and or other work assignments. POST-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: The Trainee will have completed the Mechanic Trainee Program when the following items are achieved. The Trainee must successfully complete the training program within two years of starting the position IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING: High School Diploma or GED; AND Two (2) years of experience in preventative Maintenance of vehicles, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks and a variety of heavy and light equipment. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of City vehicles and equipment including light and heavy trucks and a wide range of construction equipment which requires hand and coordination skill to operate, manipulation and lifting of hand tools and power hand equipment such as drills, hammers wrenches, screwdrivers and other variety of tools needed to complete work duties. Assists Storekeeper / Parts worker in receiving, inspecting, counting, and stocking parts, supplies and equipment.
May issue parts and equipment to worker.. Changes tires on Fleet vehicles by hand and or using an automatic tire mounting equipment. Provides recorded notes on computer generated work orders, indicating the repair, completion, waiting parts and any other defects in the equipment and or vehicle on a daily basis
Uses wide range of cutting and welding equipment in accordance with established safety procedures, along with maintaining equipment. Picks up and delivers all types of trucks and other vehicles, parts, materials and supplies to and from the garage and vendor as directed.
