Position Summary and Qualifications
NOTE: The level and salary of this position will be determined by the Class Certification level and experience of the candidate that is selected as indicated:
A Certification Minimum: $27.82/hour
B Certification Minimum: $25.29/hour

C Certification Minimum: $22.99/hour
Trainee Minimum: $20.90

The salary range shown represents the minimum to midpoint salary for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on qualifications and experience.
Specialized work in the operation of a conventional Lime Softening and Reverse Osmosis water treatment plant on an assigned rotating shift. Reports to Water Resources Operations Supervisor.
Knowledge of methods and practical water treatment, and of standards and normal operating procedures applicable to treatment.
Knowledge of the functions and mechanics of pumps and other plant mechanical equipment.
Knowledge of the implications of improper water treatment for community health and well-being
Knowledge of Windows based computer programs or ability to learn same in a reasonable time necessary
Ability to inspect machinery and other mechanical equipment in operation and to detect flaws and defects in operation.
Ability to read and interpret meters accurately.
Ability to maintain simple records of shift operations.
Ability to perform simple chemical analyses accurately.
Ability to adjust treatment procedures to meet requirements of volumes to be treated.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
May require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-out work during non-working hours or emergencies.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. For A, B or C Operator - Must meet the current Class Certification as a non-limited water treatment plant operator ("A", "B" or "C" Operator) by the Department of Environmental Regulations, State of Florida A. Valid State of Florida Driver's License
(NOTE: There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform.)
Regulates rate of water flow to and from filters; puts filters into and out of line; washes filters; generally regulates machines adding chemicals to water under treatment.
Maintains proper chemical dosages as indicated by chemical analysis and/or flow changes.
Replenishes chemical Day tanks and supplies as needed; keeps Water Resources Operations Supervisor informed of need to reorder, or unusual usage of chemicals ("A" Operator).
Monitors data acquisition screens and historical data, ability to interpret same. Records membrane conductivity, other chemical and pressure readings.
Reads and changes a variety of charts, meters and keeps log sheets and prepares operating reports. Reports unusual events to the Water Resources Operations Supervisor.
Maintains proper water pressure and water storage levels as required.
Performs housekeeping duties in work areas or as assigned.
Informs Water Resources Operations Supervisor of any mechanical defects; assists with the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of machinery and equipment.
Supervises the work of Operator Trainees engaged in routine plant operations.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays most of employee premium and 71% of the dependent premium.
DENTAL INSURANCE - Becomes effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays 100% of employee premium and 60% of the dependent premium.
VISION - Becomes effective for employees and dependents on the first day of the month following completion of 30 days continuous service. FPUA pays 100% of employee premium eye care coverage for employees and a portion for their family members, including eye exams, glasses, contact lenses, etc.
LIFE INSURANCE - TERM (EMPLOYEES ONLY) - Life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment policy equal to 1x employee's annual salary. Employees may also purchase, on a voluntary basis, additional life insurance through payroll deduction in $10,000 increments up to $100,000.
LONG TERM DISABILITY - Employees out for more than 90 days due to a disabling injury or illness will receive 60% of wage, up to $4,500 per month.
