Job description

The Security Officer I is responsible for the safety and security of all patients, employees,
contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors, utilizing Institute facilities. The incumbent will complete regular security rounds, check for and verify proper identification, sign-in/out individuals, provide escort services, control building ingress and egress, write reports, ensure adherence and compliance of Institute policies, and promptly respond to disturbances while on duty.


1. Provide for the safety and security of all patients, employees, contractors,
trainees, vendors, and visitors utilizing Institute’s methods, protocol, policy, and procedure.


2. Check for Kennedy Krieger Institute issued identification (ID) badges and complete the sign-in/out process for all patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors without Institute issued ID badges.


3. Ensure enforcement and demonstrate compliance of all security related policies/procedures.
4. Inspect packages carried out/entering buildings by patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, or visitors to ensure that the individual has proper pass/authorization for removal and to keep out contraband.


5. Arm/disarm alarm systems and monitor Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.


6. Assist with investigations.


7. Document and report all suspicious activity and prepare detailed reports as needed (i.e., Daily/monthly Activity Report, Security Incident Report, and Injury Reports).


8. Ensure that assigned work environments are properly maintained and clean. Report safety/security issues, property defects, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism to appropriate authority in a timely fashion.


9. Assist with training new/less experienced security officers and contract staff.


Must possess or obtain a Maryland Security Guard Certification within 30 days of
May require Class “D” Maryland driver’s license with no more than two points
depending on assigned location.


EDUCATION:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.


EXPERIENCE:

One (1) year of previous security work experience required.
