Job description

No experience? Good. We will train you.

West Texas Aggregates is hiring at our sand and gravel pit in Matador, Texas. You do not need mining experience. You do not need to have run heavy equipment. If you show up, work hard, and pay attention, we will teach you a trade that pays for the rest of your life.

We started in 2026 and we are growing fast. We are adding shifts. The people who come in now are the ones who will be running crews later.

Read this part before you apply.

This is not a sit-in-the-cab-all-day job. You will learn to run a loader, and you will also get out of it. There is shoveling. There is cleaning up spillage and waste material. There is moving and squaring up stockpiles, keeping the yard organized, and working around the plant. Days are long, the pace is quick, and West Texas weather does not care how you feel about it.

People looking for a quiet seat and a radio do not last here. People who like to work do, and they move up fast.
What you will do:

  • Learn to operate wheel loaders and other heavy equipment, trained by people who run them every day
  • Load haul trucks and keep them moving in and out
  • Move, stack, and square up stockpiles of washed sand and #57 stone
  • Clean up spillage and waste material and keep the pit and yard organized
  • Work around our wash plant, helping keep material flowing and the site running
  • Log loads on an iPad. Company, truck, job site, material, tonnage. If you can use a phone, you can use it.

What we are looking for:

  • A hard worker who shows up on time, every time. This is most of it.
  • Willingness to do real physical work outdoors in all weather
  • Willingness to learn. We would rather have someone green and eager than experienced and finished learning.
  • Ability to work as part of a crew. Everybody here helps everybody.
  • A bonus, not a requirement: any mechanical ability at all. If you can turn a wrench, tell us. It changes what your career here looks like.

What we pay and what we cover:

  • $20.00 per hour to start, with raises earned by capability, not by calendar. Pick up more equipment, learn the plant, and the pay follows. Our experienced operators make up to $35.00 per hour.
  • Your MSHA training is on us. West Texas Aggregates is MSHA Part 46 compliant. If you have never set foot on a mine site, that is fine. We pay for your new miner training, you get trained before you work on your own, and you get annual refresher training after that. It is a real certification that stays with you for the rest of your career in this industry.
  • Overtime is available for people who want the hours, and we are moving into multiple shifts.

Where you will work, and where you can live:

  • 350 State Highway 70, Matador, TX 79244
  • About 30 minutes from Turkey and an hour and a half from Lubbock. This is a rural site. We would rather you know that up front than find out on day one.
  • Housing around Matador is limited, and we are straight with people about that.
  • Have an RV? We have a spot on site with a hookup. You can live right here.
  • Coming in from a neighboring town? Plenty of our people do. That works fine.
  • Something else in mind? Talk to us. Living arrangements are negotiable and we would rather solve it than lose a good hand over it.

Where this goes... These are open paths right now, not someday-maybe:

  • Training across loaders, excavators, and more equipment as you show you can handle it
  • Maintenance work on our wash plant if you have mechanical aptitude. That skill is worth real money here.
  • FAA Part 107 drone certification to fly stockpile surveys, paid for by us. That seat is currently unfilled.
  • Crew lead. More shifts means more people running them, and we would rather promote from the pit than hire from outside.

West Texas Aggregates is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or genetic information.

Company Description

West Texas Aggregates is a surface sand and gravel operation in Motley County,
Texas, producing washed sand and #57 stone for construction and infrastructure
work.
We built this operation from the ground up. Wheel loaders and excavators feed a
Terex AggreSand 206 wash plant that screens, washes, and separates material
under automated touchscreen control, and loads are ticketed on an iPad. We are
adding production, adding shifts, and adding people, and new shifts get filled
from inside first.
Safety is a condition of the job, not a poster in the break room. We are MSHA
Part 46 compliant and we pay for new miner training and annual refreshers. From
there we cross-train people across loaders, excavators, plant operation, and
mechanical work, and we cover FAA Part 107 certification for drone stockpile
surveys.
Matador is rural and we say so up front. Housing is limited, so we keep an RV
spot with a hookup on site and we work with people on living arrangements. We
hire hard workers with no experience at $20.00 per hour with full training, and
skilled operators up to $35.00 per hour, with overtime available.
West Texas Aggregates is an equal opportunity employer.
