Job description

Weekend Requirements: As Needed | Work Hours: PRN | Status: Per Diem/PRN - 0.0 FTE (less than 40 hours per pay period) | Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Transfer Center

Job Summary:

Triages incoming calls from clients, assessing their needs, giving appropriate clinical disposition, and facilitating referrals to primary providers, specialists, healthcare facilities, and community resources; using nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standard of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Elicits questions, concerns, and information from caller to assess symptoms, determine acuity, identify appropriate algorithm/protocol, and develop treatment plan.

  • Provides professional advice, education, and options based on assessment, established guidelines, and clinical judgment. When appropriate, dispatches emergency response units.

  • Provides referrals to healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate, including locations, hours, and contact information.

  • Assists caller with scheduling appointments at referral sources when appropriate.

  • Documents calls, responses, and referrals. Performs follow up calls to evaluate effectiveness of care and need for additional care.

  • Pages physician accurately and timely and completes direct admit orders.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required

Education

  • Associate's degree or higher or Diploma in Nursing required upon hire

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the States of Kentucky and Indiana required upon hire
