Role: Lead Java Software Engineer – AWS / Spring Boot / Microservices
Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week (Monday & Wednesday)

Role Overview
Seeking a Lead Software Engineer to provide technical leadership in designing, developing, testing, and deploying enterprise-scale digital platforms hosted on AWS. The role will focus on backend RESTful APIs and microservices while driving architecture, engineering best practices, and end-to-end software delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of RESTful APIs and microservices using Java 21+, Spring Boot, Apigee, and AWS.
  • Architect API-first solutions, including service contracts, payload schemas, and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs, user stories, and development tasks.
  • Design secure service-to-service integrations using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and authorization models.
  • Lead architecture decisions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, UI teams, architects, and partner development teams.
  • Establish best practices for scalability, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability.
  • Drive automated testing, performance testing, load testing, and production readiness.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues.
  • Own the complete software lifecycle from design and development through deployment, monitoring, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Create technical documentation, operational runbooks, and engineering standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong experience with software development, product design, and architecture.
  • Strong decision-making and critical-thinking skills.
  • Extensive experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot REST API development.
  • Experience with API management/gateway platforms, preferably Apigee.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining applications in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
