Job description

Program Overview

The Pilot Legence Installation & Maintenance Management Trainee (MT) Program is an 18-month development experience designed to provide early career development to the next generation of operational leaders within our Installation & Maintenance segment. The Installation & Maintenance segment fabricates and installs HVAC systems, process piping, and other MEP systems in new and existing industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings, and provides ongoing preventative and corrective maintenance services, emergency repair, and break-fix services, as well as facility energy analysis, automation, optimization, and system certification and testing.

Trainees are assigned to one or more business units during the program and rotate through key operational departments in 6-month increments, gaining hands-on exposure to the full scope of field operations, project execution, and business management. MTs are expected to contribute meaningfully from day one.

Upon successful completion, graduates will be positioned for front-line or operational roles within Legence's I&M business units.

Key Responsibilities Throughout the Program

  • Actively engage in each rotation with a commitment to learning and contributing
  • Build relationships with employees, supervisors, project managers, and business unit leaders
  • Apply on-the-job learning to real operational challenges
  • Participate in quarterly structured check-ins, performance reviews, and development conversations with assigned mentors and program leadership
  • Complete assigned projects, reports, and learning milestones at each rotation
  • Represent Legence's values and culture in all interactions with customers, craft employees, and colleagues
  • Maintain flexibility to travel to job sites and, if required, relocate to support program assignments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Strong academic performance and leadership exposure— on campus, in the community, through prior work, or military service
  • Genuine interest in field operations, the skilled trades, and the built environment
  • Willingness to travel regularly and relocate as needed during the 18-month program
  • Strong communication skills — comfortable working with both craft employees in the field and senior leaders in the office
  • Self-starter with high personal accountability and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in construction, mechanical contracting, facilities, or a related industry
  • Exposure to union or trade environments
  • Basic understanding of HVAC, MEP systems, or building operations
  • Familiarity with project management concepts or tools

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
  • Structured mentorship from experienced operational and business leaders
  • Exposure to one of the fastest-growing building performance platforms in the country, serving the world's most technically demanding industries
  • A team culture that values craftsmanship, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Who This Is For

This program is designed for early-career individuals who are serious about building a career in operations and leadership within the installation and maintenance industry. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, and eager to learn the business from the ground up. If you want to understand how buildings are built and maintained, lead people who do skilled, meaningful work, and grow into a leadership role in a company that is shaping the future of the built environment — this program is for you.

Base salary: $60k-$75k per year.
