Job description

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Assignment may include teaching in both didactic and clinical courses using appropriate instructional technologies to ensure that course outcomes are met.

All faculty in the FNP program participate collaboratively in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum.

This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of up to .2 FTE, inclusive of teaching daytime classes, attending faculty department meetings, performing clinical site visits, supervising labs/OSCEs as needed to provide quality education to FNP/DNP students.

FNP faculty will adhere to all School of Nursing policies and procedures.

Clinical Activities (not assigned administrative, education, or research FTE):

  • Direct
    • Clinical activities include performing clinical site visits to assess and mentor students’ learning, and participation in labs/OSCEs.
    • Clinical coverage requirement is generally during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. However, there may occasionally be evening or weekend requirements.
  • Indirect clinical activities may include assisting with finding clinical placements, vetting preceptors.

Faculty Activities (service, scholarship, and research):

  • Clinical APP faculty have an expectation of advancement and activities consistent with faculty pursuits standard work.
  • Faculty pursuit opportunities specific to position:
    • Attendance at faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program or Academic Director.
    • Participates in faculty governance; additional engagement based on rank.

Other Activities (not covered above):

  • All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care that includes working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research, consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies.

Education:

  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized APRN specialty (Family Nurse Practitioner). DNP preferred.

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:

  • Current RN and APRN licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
  • Current national certification in the area of specialization.
  • Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position
  • DEA Certification.

Experience:

  • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Documented teaching competency demonstrated through experience, education preparation preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert clinical knowledge including integrating evidence-based practices
  • Pedagogical skills including knowledge and skills in implementing competency-based education
  • Mentoring skills
  • Leadership capabilities
  • Ability to effectively assess clinical judgement and give constructive, effective feedback to students.
  • Must have technology proficiency for evaluating simulation, clinical abilities, and health information systems
