About the role

The Motor Control Engineer II develops and optimizes motion control algorithms for electric motors, ensuring efficiency and reliability. The role involves cross-functional collaboration, system integration and validation, supporting the lifecycle from design to certification while maintaining technical documentation and troubleshooting test findings.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced motion control algorithms and simulation models for electric motors, focusing on efficiency, stability, and reliability across varied conditions.
  • Architect and test high-performance control platforms for high-power converters/inverters, collaborating on embedded software/firmware implementation using model-based approaches.
  • Define test plans, perform validation, and continuously improve algorithms based on test data, considering load variations and thermal impacts.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, substantiation reports, simulation files, test data processing, and reports to align with certification requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all design files, analysis, and test data in appropriate platforms identified by magniX.
  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration between software, power electronics, electromagnetic, and system teams to ensure seamless integration of motion control designs into the powertrain system.
  • Support testing teams in test data processing, test reports, and troubleshooting findings in different test campaigns.

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ minimum years of experience for Bachelors or Masters, will consider PhD directly out of school.
  • Experience in designing and developing high-performance motion control for PMSMs.
  • Knowledge of power converter topologies, modulation strategies, and advanced motor control algorithms, with expertise in field-oriented control techniques.
  • Experienced in control algorithm validation through simulation and hardware testing, with a focus on performance optimization, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in using real-time digital simulation tools (RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon) for implementing and testing control software.
  • Competency with model-based programming languages for critical systems, such as Ansys SCADE, for robust control software development.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with software, power electronics, and system teams to support the integration of motion control designs.
  • Experience in implementing real-time control software on DSP and FPGA platforms.

  • Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.
