Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Flight Test Tech 3/4 to join the team of qualified individuals. Position is located in either Palmdale, CA or Edwards AFB, CA. The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.

In this role the selected candidate will: perform developmental, experimental and production aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and testing tasks in a field of specialization; electrical / electronic, mechanical or instrumentation. Instructs, coordinates and performs the duties / functions of Flight Test personnel in area(s) of assignment. They will determine the sequence for installing, removing, maintaining, repairing or fabricating critical aircraft components, or electrical / electronic, mechanical or instrumentation systems. Perform testing, rework and repair in various fields of specialization. Apply shop theory and skills in accomplishing assigned tasks working from incomplete engineering, electronic data, blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, technical orders and written and verbal instructions. Work from blueprints, engineering orders, schematics, repair manuals and other technical documents on aircraft electrical / electronic, mechanical, plumbing, and hydraulics, power plant, structures or instrumentation systems. Perform drilling, reaming, fitting, assembly, trimming, riveting, splicing, insulating and other associated duties as assigned. Perform electrical, mechanical or instrumentation maintenance, repair and testing in support of specific flight test projects. Construct, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains various types of complex aircraft equipment, components, devices or systems. Perform modifications and adjustments as necessary. Notify lead personnel or supervision of any / all malfunctions, defects and damages of equipment, material and product. Check work for completeness and accuracy. Perform Production Accountability duties associated with the processing, verification, quality auditing and inspection of assemblies, parts and tooling for which the individual has been delegated production accountability. May be required to work in other fields incidental to, and in connection with completion of assignment. May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision, performs routine technical functions related to the support of development engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, and assembly of electronics and Electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models or specialized test equipment. Applications may include analog, digital and/or video type circuits and logic systems. Guidance is readily available from superiors.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, troubleshooting, prototype building, environmental testing, and simple developmental engineering tasks.
  • Performs routine operational tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications.
  • Diagnoses and isolates malfunctions down to component level.
  • Conducts defined engineering tests and collects data as assigned. Excludes trainees with no academic preparation or experience.
  • Travel up to 25% may be required.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent AND 4 years of related professional/military experience.

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent AND 6 years of related professional/military experience.

Basic Qualifications for Both Levels:

  • Must have an active US Government clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)
  • Experience working in a production or test environment
  • Familiar with aspects of systems test
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must be able to work from extended work platforms at elevated heights and for extended period of time
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS, Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Demonstrates good soldering and crimp skills, able to fabricate cables and harnesses against engineering drawings and parts lists.
  • Possessing solder & crimp certifications a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing & troubleshooting using appropriate test equipment in a system environment incorporating various data interfaces such as Ethernet, 1553, ARINC, RS-488, 232, etc. a plus.
  • Be proficient with hand tools and small power tools
Primary Level Salary Range: $66,000.00 - $111,000.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $131,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
