The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Materials & Research, has a full-time vacancy for a Geological Exploration Supervisor.
SUMMARY:
Performs skilled technical and supervisory work in managing personnel and equipment in the coordination of a statewide subsurface exploration program in support of the engineering design and development of public highway, bridge, and building projects, ensuring that work operations are conducted efficiently, safely, and in accordance with accepted standards, policies, and procedures.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in geology, engineering geology, geological/geotechnical exploration, or a related field and include at least 1 year of experience leading work crews.
License/Certification: Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL-A) with no airbrake restrictions
Other Requirements:
1. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency
2. Must receive a negative result on a pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school, without 1 year of experience leading work crews, and/or lacking the CDL-A license may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A thorough understanding of subsurface exploration equipment, techniques, and best management practices. Preference will be given to applicants having management training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
DETAILED TASKS (STANDARD): None
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Reviews project plans and job sites for accessibility and to determine project equipment and manpower needs. Directly supervises and/or operates exploration equipment in difficult or dangerous locations. Operates exploration equipment to supplement field crews and complete subsurface explorations as needed.
Monitors crew productivity and suggests methods to minimize down time. Communicates with Geological Exploration Superintendent and drilling crews daily regarding field operations and makes routine visits to exploration sites.
Plans and conducts asphalt coring and base course sampling operations, in coordination with the Geotechnical Drilling Superintendent, for pavement design. Provides technical guidance to ensure subsurface explorations are conducted in accordance with standard procedures.
Assists the Geological Exploration Superintendent in the planning of personnel work schedule. Communicates with property owners, Highway Maintenance and Turnpike staff, and other stakeholders to implement activities of multiple drill crews.
Supervises the training of personnel. Completes employee performance evaluations and recommends disciplinary action. Interviews applicants for vacant positions and makes hiring recommendations.
Ensures the maintenance of exploration equipment and coordinates major repairs with the Bureau of Mechanical Services and Geological Exploration Superintendent.
Submits material and equipment needs to the Geological Exploration Superintendent for purchase. Ensures material inventories are maintained and updated for each drill crew. Organizes and maintains the inventory of samples in storage.
Checks and reviews employee time sheets, expense reports, leave slips, daily work summary reports, and equipment cost reports.
Performs and oversees work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.
