Job description

Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina is looking for an Associate Engineer, Engineer, or Sr Engineer to join our team in the Columbia, SC area. This is a full-time position supporting Electric Distribution Engineering. The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This position will be responsible for:

  • Performing engineering calculations, analysis, research and design;
  • Under direction of supervisor or work leader, performs routine assignments designed to develop professional engineering work knowledge, gain familiarity with techniques, approaches, practices and the nature of engineering systems, equipment, etc;
  • Develop the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out sequence of related engineering tasks;
  • Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Associate Engineer: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 0 – 2 years of relevant engineering work experience.

Engineer: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 2 + years of relevant engineering work experience

Senior Engineer: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 5 + years of relevant engineering experience

The selected candidate must have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related field.
  • Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
  • Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters.
  • Recognized expert by other engineers and management in assigned area.
  • Provides technical advice to other engineers and management in assigned area.
  • Skilled in the use of engineering techniques.
  • Planning and project management skills.
  • Technical and organizational leadership skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
  • Knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g., Matlab, Excel, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply codes, regulations, and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment.
Education Requirements

Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor’s in Engineering

Preferred:Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.

For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:

ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.

Note: Associate Engineer is documented as a trainee.
